Hey all.  Here is a quick video update on my 71 progress! It's finally back from being saftied, and we've been sanding the heck out of it the past few days.

Looks real good. Are you going to be painting it yourself? I've shot a couple complete cars in my day, but never more then daily driver quality. Just don't have the knack for being a great painter. The one thing I can tell you is Preparation! is 90% of a great paint job. The better the prep, the better it will look, simple as that. Good Luck.

Thanks!  Yes we are painting it ourselves.  We have done extensive prep work, lots and lots of sanding!  We also did our research and used really good quality paint and clear coat.  Unfortunately we had some unexpected things happen in the middle of the last coat of clear!  The air compressor stopped working, causing the paint to go on thick (a few runs) :/  And at one point the air line somehow literally unscrewed itself and the hose went flying around the room.  Also water seemed to be an issue even though we had 3 water filters in attempt to stop it.   In the end however, it turned out alright.  Its not perfect but it's pretty good.

Sounds like you had some scary stuff happen, as an air hose blowing apart, would scare the heck out of you when you're trying to concentrate on painting your car. Fortunately you said the runs happened in the clear. That's definitely the easiest place to fix them. A trick I learned that saved hours of trying to sand the run out. was to take a hard backed razor blade, lay it flat against the car, and carefully slice the high spots/globs of the run off. Then wet sand the rest of the imperfection out, Then buff, and polish as usual.  Hope it helps.

Sounds like you had to deal with a few unforeseen problems.

I am looking forward to seeing how the job turned out for you.
