Manual Trans Gear Oil
#11
Thanks for the reply.  I'm going to pick up 3 more quarts of the Lucus 80W90 gear oil and change it again.  It simply worked so much better.  With this Joe Gibbs Racing gear oil I really noticed it being hard to downshift from 3rd to 2nd, at one time it simply wouldn't do it.  I didn't have any shifting issues with the Lucus gear oil.

Is this the Lucus additive you keep mentioning to add with the gear oil?  https://lucasoil.com/products/engine-oil...stabilizer  It specifically states its for manual transmissions and differentials.  I have a quart of it but haven't used any yet.

For now I found old school Sta-Lube 80W-90 that is GL4 rated only at my local NAPA store.  It's also on Sta-Lube's website.  Apparently, they still offer gear oil for older synchromesh transmissions.  Members on 69stang are using it with good results.  This is my last try before going back to Lucus non-synthetic 80W-90 GL4 and GL5 rated gear oil.  As soon as we get a day with reasonable temps I'll take it out and drive the car again.  We've been stuck in the high 90's and low 100 degree temps now for a while.  I will say the Sta-Lube seems much thicker and is more difficult to pump than the Joe Gibbs Racing gear oil I initially tried.

which oil are you using? being a towing truck driver of blocked driveway towing Manhattan, i do use Lucas Synthetic Gear Oil, i realized it better others, it provides smooth shifting in gears, I would suggest you try this one.... or if you have any suggestion for me so let me know also, please.

Update:  I finally drove the 69 Mach 1 last week with old school Sta-Lube GL4 80-90 gear oil in the trans.  The 4sp top loader trans worked great!  Shifted fine.  I found the gear oil at my local NAPA parts store.
