Brake booster/servo hose length
#1
Hi all.
Could someone please tell me the correct length of the brake servo/booster hose on a 1971 Mach 1?
Thanks in advance!

Well  as I remember, it will depend on what carb you have. As I believe on the 2 barrel cars, the hose came off the bottom or base of the carb, and was a preshaped hose to bend 90degrees to reach the booster. I believe I've also seen the hose come from a Vacuum tree located in the back half of the intake on 4 barrel versions, necessitating a different hose. Unless you're doing a Concours restoration, any hose that is evap compatible hose will work. Hope it helps.  Cool

Thanks for the reply. I haven't got access to car at mo to measure the old hose. Quite hard (and expensive!) to get the correct size (11/32") vacuum hose here in UK. Sold in either 18" or 3ft lengths, so wondered if 18" length would be enough? Having to count every penny at the moment with the 'cost of living crisis' here, and 3ft is twice the price!! By the way, it's a 4 barrel edelbrock. Hose runs from servo straight to rear of carb. I now found out that the original hose would of run over the shock tower brace!

Im 98% sure 18" would be more then enough, but if it's that expensive. I think I would be sure to measure it first. I can't remember it going over the fender brace??? Probably just old age is foggin my memory. LOL. It would cost about $1.00 a foot here.

Thanks again. I've got access to the car on Saturday, so probably best to wait and measure! As for the cost, it works out about $30 for 3ft Confused here!

Geeeez You guys got it tough. 10 Dollars a foot. WOW!  Wow
At that price, I'd wait and measure.

Yep Confused ! And the decent petrol here is still touching £1.90 a litre!
Anyhow, have now measured hose already on vehicle and it's about 18" with a nice big curve out of back of carb!
Main thing is, I now have power assisted brakes again Wink ! So called silicon 'vacuum hose' I fitted was collapsing under vacuum Cool !
Suppose the moral is to always use the right hose!! (It was such a nice blue colour though Laughing !!)
Cheers guys!
