That big Mustang II prototype in the picture is pretty ugly. Glad it did not pan out!

I hate when they call the Mustang II the low point in the history of the Mustang. I prefer to think of it as the standard bearer at a point in automotive history when Muscle cars were not popular and even politically in correct. I was a young driver at this point in history and remember it well. Thank goodness for the II it saved the Mustang so we can still go down to our local Ford Dealer and buy a new Mustang when you can't many other cars that disappeared in that era.

I am NOT A FAN of the (Pinto based) Mustang II. BUT...... I MUST admit it was the right car at the right time (about 13 seconds ahead of the fuel crisis). '74 sales roughly tripled '73. As far as being derived fr the lowly Pinto, well; the '64 came fr the Falcon, the '67 fr the Fairlane and the '79 fr the Fairmont. FoMoCo made the right Mustnag EVERY time. Agreed; credit the Mustang II for the opportunity my kids/grandkids have of owning a Mustang.

Not a Fan? Fan is short for fanatic and I can totally understand not being a fanatic of the II's I'm not either but that said I'm sure glad they came along when they did. I owned one and even bought it brand new. It wasn't a great car but it wasn't all that bad either. Besides Farrah looked hot sitting on the hood of that cobra II.
