As for having a good Day. I'm still alive, so I guess there's good in that. Otherwise lets talk about something else. Sounds like you got it pretty well figured out. The "old cam" is a possibility all the way up till 85 when everything was suppose to be roller. Yeah right I had a build date of 11/85 LTD with a flat tappet cam, which should have been a roller motor. But it was EFI. So I think it had to do with what Ford had left on the shelf at the time. I do know there were times when the SVO team would pull an engine from the line for testing, and do all kinds of "things" to it, and then stick it back into the production line. Where it would unexpectedly end up in Granny's Granada. That would smoke the tires till the cows came home! It turned out to be a 331ci Windsor, first one I'd ever seen everything on the car said it was a 302, but the 302 Rod, and Main Bearings weren't the same, after a lot of talking, and digging it turned out to be a 331. It was way more then Granny needed, I'll assure you that. Ford was real good at what my Dad would call a Skunk Works. In the early days SVO had almost no budget, and had to do things like that. It was several years later Ford started funding real performance research etc. I think the Mans' name was John Colletti or something like that. He's the one that really turned the wick up on Ford Performance.
As far as the balance issue. If it's wrong you'll know immediately. LOL!
