Hello,
I am thinking on installing an overdrive on my FMX. I run in 3:50 and it's short in highway.
1) Is it realiable? Does it cause problems?
2) I heard that the overdrive will be on 1 or 2 on the shifter selector.
Is it possible to change the shifter to keep P D N 1 2 and get a specific place on the selector for OD?
Thanks

Hello
Are you thinking about a gearvendor ?
I Think they are quite expensive, maybe better to swap for 4R70W instead ?

I agree, an overdrive trans would be a cleaner installation. The only drawback is in stock form 4R70W is not as strong as the FMX. However, in stock form, of the AOD, AODE, and 4R70W overdrives, the 4R70W is the strongest. The 4R70W replaced the AODE in production cars somewhere in 1995 or 1996.
Many people have a 4R70W rebuilt and in the process have it upgraded up to handle more torque. Then use a stand alone controller for it. You'd have to do some internet searching to find the mfg. of the stand alone controller. I'd steer away from an AOD or an AODE trans. In stock form, those two have a history of being problematic and not very strong.
That's all the input I have on OD transmissions.
