The Things We Teach...

...even when they've just been watching over the years. This isn't Mach1 related but nonetheless electrical on a Ford logo vehicle. Young, Master Franklin (5) helped me take all the remaining pieces off our dash yesterday with 1/4" socket and Phillips screwdriver in hand. There was an on/off switch left of the headlight switch not hooked up to anything and what turned out to be a press on, fake key hole. With that switch and seeing the old, incandescent bulbs on the workbench from the speedo/tach cleanup he dreamed up this last night. We made it a reality this morning. All I did was run the soldering iron and the electrical tape. He has an unhealthy obsession with putting to much tape on everything. Even if it's not really needed, it needs some tape, Dad.

For those not familiar with a Power Wheel, they come with just fake looking headlights. A few holes drilled, some wire run & soldered, and splicing in to the battery wires. FYI - One former speedo/tach bulb on each side throws lights about two to three feet in front of his truck with the lights off in the garage.

That is absolutely Cool! A+ on the jackstands, can't ever be to careful, and if you teach him the correct way now he'll do it that way for ever. A+ all the way around. Just some cool father and son time. JTS 71 Mach1

That is so cool in more ways than one. Something you both will remember for ever. Dave R.

Thanks! Always love hearing or reading the parent/kiddo stories. Reminds me of all the time I spent with my granddad growing up in his garage or workshop.

By the way. Just got home and had to kick those puppies on to see how well they light up the night. In pitch black you can see about 50' away. Not as bright white as real headlights but I was impressed. Makes you wonder why those old bulbs are so hard to light up the tach, speedo, and fuel.

Also does anyone know why those would have been on the bottom left of my dash next to the headlight switch? They were mounted to the left of the headlight switch. I always thought it was a dealer installed or 70's aftermarket alarm system. With the keyhole being a fake press on thought maybe someone just wanted it to look like it had an alarm.

Atleast I only have one hole in the dash where the switch was. Perhaps I'll have Franklin wire some aftermarket fog lights or an LED light bar to the bottom of the bumper someday and use that hole with a new switch since he took mine.
