I did this to Ms Mach1FatherFigure's BMW MINI about 2.5 years ago and it still looks good.
I took them off and also removed the mounting bracket. I then sand blasted them in a little home bench top unit. I screwed odd bolts into the brake pipe fitting points and taped over the rubber bellows.
Once they were clean I gave them two coats of VHT Caliper Paint, Gold to match her car. The mounting brackets got the same cleaning treatment but were finished in sliver paint.
I cured the paint in the oven for about an hour - not hot enough to damage the rubber parts.
Refit and bleed. As I said, still good more than 2 years later BUT they have not had track use, only road.
