I would love to keep the car as original as possible. The motor has 129,000 miles on it. its the 351C 4v cj engine. I want to put aftermarket rods and pistons with a cam. What do y'all think this would set me back price wise and do you think building the internals will take away from the car? I just want it to sound a little meaner and move a little faster. I plan to use the original motor craft carb so hopefully that won't limit me too much. let me know what my options are. I honestly don't want to spend more that 3k but 4k would be my max. This sound do able?

Build on.
But if you are concerned about originality and affecting the possible resale then find another 351C block and go for broke with a non numbers matching block and keep the numbers matching parts to go with the car.

I think 3K should do what you want. Consider what Steve suggested. Buy another engine, build it, then swap engines and save the original. You really can't build up the internals without some externals as well, intake, headers, carb to maintain some "balance" if you will. Ideally, all the components need to have similar power operating RPM ranges. If you plan to just pay a shop to do a complete build. Do your homework first so you'll know if their build suggestions are reasonable for your needs. Oh yeah, I wouldn't think twice about not using that Autolite carb.
Have fun with it.
Best Regards,
Mike
