Hello,

Believe or not, I just found this forum today. I am in Northern California. I have had my 1969 Mach 1 since 1995. It took me about 5 years to restore it. I still tinker with it because I enjoy doing so. But it has partially changed from restoration project to a preservation project.

A little bit about the car: My Mach 1 is a Meadowlark Yellow M-code California car, built at the San Jose CA plant and spent its whole life in California. So fortunately, it has always been essentially rust free. I inherited it from an older brother who suddenly passed away after starting the restoration. He purchased it from who I believe was the original owner in the same town I live in.

Other than a slightly lowered stance, the car is original in appearance. It even has its original chrome styled steel wheels. The drive train is basically a mild built 69 351W, close ratio 4sp., and 3.89 gears on a 31 spline traction-loc differential in an OEM nodular case and Daytona pinion housing. I don't, and never intended to cruise down freeways in this car.

Anyway, I am looking forward to getting some great advise and ideas on this forum and hope I can help some others as well.

Best Regards,

Welcome to the site! I am sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your brother. Please accept my condolences.

The car has my favorite drive train with the close ratio 4 speed tranny backed up with the 3.89 traction-loc, 31 spline big "N" case! Do you know if the car special ordered that way or did you or your brother add later?

Please upload some pictures...sounds like a great car you have!

Thanks MustangMike. My brother only had the car about a month. Long enough to strip it down to a bare shell and put it on dollies. That is where I inherited it. My brother had an N-case with 3.50:1 gears and a 28 spline traction loc differential from another 69 Mustang Sportsroof. When I rebuilt the rear end for this Mach 1 I used that N-case and installed an NOS 31 spline 4-pinion traction loc from Perogie Enterprises, along with the 3.89:1 Motive gears and Moser Engineering 31 spline axles.

I don't have time to drive it much. But it is fun around town. It takes some self control to stay out of trouble.

I get a few pictures together. I am still getting familiar with the interface on this site.

The N-cases are definitely worth their weight in gold nowadays! I installed the 3.89 gears in my car but haven't tested them out yet. I hope they will make me smile when I hit the road this Spring.

If you need assistance with uploading pictures just let us know.

You should like the 3.89 gears. It doesn't seem to matter if you roll on the throttle slow or fast. The car's response is very quick and crisp.

Yeah you will definitely feel the 3:89's right in the seat of your pants. With a high winding 289 up front, "crisp" may be an understatement. JTS 71 Mach1

Welcome. What an interesting history. Sorry you had to get the car in those circumstances.
