My 72 Mach 1 build & paint-Painting pics
#11
Way to go Ylwhrse, I'am also building a paint booth when I get the second half of my shop completed (getting ready to lay concrete). I have picked a similar design, Question I have, is that PVC and if so what size? Kinda looks like 1 inch, if I had to guess. Car looks great and you are very correct about the prep making all the difference. Thmbsup I just wish it didn't suck so much. JTS 71 Mach1

Very true !! It does sick bad but really is a labor of love and is SO worth the time when you see the finished product. Yes my temporary booth was PVC pipe and I used mainly all 2" size pipe. They make special connectors for building furniture I found for the top and bottom corners and to attach the rails. I will take some close up pictures of them tomorrow when I'm at my shop and will post them. I made my booth 20' X 25' and in retrospect would have gone smaller for better air flow control. Say 18 X 20 or so. I liked the extra room to move around in but it was almost too big. I think my total cost in PVC, plastic sheeting and duct tape was around 250 dollars. I had the fan already.

I was mistaken on PVC size. I checked today as I still have most of it stored in the back of my shop. I did re-use some of it to run a water line from my back corner of my shop to the front where I put in a bathroom and sink. Anyway the size of the main pipe is 1-1/4" . I used 4 way connectors for the middle pipe run. I basically had set of pipes for the top & the bottom with another round 1/2 way up=So 3 sets total. I used T style connectors at the top and bottom for the uprights. I had an upright every 10' essentially The corner connectors was the hard part as there were no 1-1/4" connectors that would connect the corner and an upright. That's when I found the ones I used that were 1". So I cut 1" PVC in foot long pieces and glued them into the corner connector pieces then slipped the 1" stub inside the 1-1/4" pipes and secured them in place with duct tape and had no problem with separation. Ill add the pictures of these connectors in this reply. If anyone has any further questions about this I could take more pictures or will be happy to answer any questions.

Yeah, I like what you did at the corners, I may do the same thing as I want to be able to disassemble it and stand it along the wall when not in use. Ingenuity is the mother of invention. SSig_goodjob any idea what you had invested, pipes, visquene etc, JTS 71 Mach1

Yes. I have a buddy that works at the lumber yard so he gave me a deal on the PVC pipe and fittings. So all in and done I had roughly 300 bucks total in the booth not counting the fan. I already had the fan and built the wood box out of scrap plywood I had laying around. I am going to build a permanent paint booth in the back of my shop this summer as it seems I'm always painting something. Prob have around 2500 in that one. But I was ready to paint and didn't want to wait for a permanent one so I built the redneck version. It worked very well.
