Cool! I just learned something: it looks like the "early" style Hockey Stripes are indeed a valid "factory" (or dealer installed) option for a '73. What's the deal with the trunk stripes though? Weren't they different in '73?
Hi, I know your concern on the 71-72 stripes lol. When I was looking for the Mach1 I was looking for this particular color and this color is only Exclusive from the 1973 Mach1. I'm going to be honest with you the 73 stripes is the only thing I don't care much for "they are great but I love the 71-72 more" The car was 100% original when I buy it with the normal interior and I upgrade the interior with the deluxe and the tach. Car look great when I got it but paint was to fade out and a lot of scratches. Engine was original and still the original engine "heads and block" here is pictures of the car when I got it whet the "73 stripes" lol. Thanks for having me on this great forum I feel like at home already.
Aha now it all makes sense. It looks like your car also had the "rear bumper guards". I learned from my Marti report that my '71 originally had them too. I managed to find a nice, original, used pair so I can put them back on if I want to. My car has been through Hell so I'm not surprised that some of the original parts are missing.
Yours looks REALLY good! I had a '73 Mach 1 when I was going to trade-school to become an automotive tech. It was originally "Medium Blue Metallic" with a blue interior but the former owner was changing the interior to black when I bought it. I got ALL of the original parts with the car except for the engine and trans. It had NO rust. I paid $500.00 for it. I put in a '71 351C and a 4-speed top-loader, drove it for a few years, then I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life: I sold it for $950.00.
That is cool! It must be nice to have all of those "pieces" of your car. I wish someone had taken as much care with mine. Back when these cars were new we never really considered them "collectors items" or "investments" so most of the original documentation was thrown away. It's always nice to find some of these things that survived with the car.
You are very right! is very rear to find window stickers from old muscle cars. I love this window sticker specially when I go to car shows I put it on the front window and never fails to hear people talk to each other "wow look at that price back then" or "I whish cars would cost this now" and my favorite of all "I pay you window sticker for your car" this is a great piece to have with my car.
Back to the whole side stripe thing - Those '71-'72 side stripes were an option in 1973 on coupes, converts, and regular sportsroof models only. As such, the option included the stripes, but not the lettered "mach 1" decals. They were NOT an option for the '73 mach 1. Mach 1's got the 1973 style stripe. GXR
