I bougt my mach1 for a while and it has been sitting since 87, and I wonder what`s experience some of you have with the 4300D autolite. Is it smart to get a rebuild kit and fix it or buy a new one? I understand these parts are fourty years. I know edelbrock has a carb. kit for this engine, with adapter for stock air cleaner.
What will be best ?

Personal preference and budget are u wanting to keep it as original as possible if so id rebuild if not just buy a new carb is what comes to my mind , Holly makes a nice Carb so does edelbrock or you could rebuild. Whats Engine do you have in it ? If you buy one you prob could go up a little in CFM size so it is what it is . Hope this helps

Thought I saw an article here somewhere that praised the Autolite as a good carb. A must to keep if you want original.
Her '70 runs a a Holley with a remote electric choke. Still got to get the final tune right on that. Has a partial misfire that may be due to being off the road for so long. Working on my plan.......

Yes the Autolite 4300 is a good carb and unless just flat wore out (excessive throttle shaft play) it would be a good candidate for a thorough rebuild. Not just a quickie. Remember when cleaning small passages just because you can blow air through them, that may not be good enough. you need flow(liquid). Take the straw that comes with a can of cheap carb cleaner (Wal Mart)Take it to the grinder and sharpen it like a pencil point so it will fit into the little holes and spray the carb cleaner, making sure the fluid comes out the discharge side of the passage. This will ensure it is clean and will pass fuel when needed. Take your time and your should end up with a good usable carb. Hope this helps, If not buy an Edelbrock set it and forget it. JTS 71 Mach1

There is a lot of praise for the Autolite 4300D and as has been stated if it is not just completely wore out a rebuild will bring it back to factory performance.
If you do decide on a replacement it would be wise to put that one on the shelf to keep with the car.
Holley or Edelbrock is a preference choice. JTS71 knows his stuff and he likes the Edelbrock. I like Holley from personal experience but I would not put myself on JTS71's level of mechanical experience.
Let us know what you decide and how it all turns out.
