Aftermarket performance parts-Warr prob BUYER BEWARE
#1
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to take a minute and share my BAD experience with a company called "Speedmasterusadc" or formally known as Pro Comp. I am in the process of building a stroked 428 to 462 CID for my 1966 galaxie 7 LITRE convertible (Sorry not a mustang this time-but it is relevant if you buy parts and work on your own cars). While the engine block was at the machine shop for boring, squaring, balancing head work etc I started purchasing the extra parts needed for the build which included a set of Speedmasterusadc roller rockers-which for Fe's are a shaft mounted system. well as sometimes goes the pistons that were for the build wound up back ordered so the balancing of the rotating assembly had to wait 6 months for the pistons. Now all is well I got the engine back and started assembly and when it came time for the rocker arm test fit for geometry I found 3 rocker arms on the shaft were binding up. upon inspection by myself and my machinist we found the hole for the shaft in the rocker arm was not made square to the shaft & to the arc of travel of the arm. Ok a defective part and the company "CLAIMS" a "Peace of mind guarantee-no ifs and or buts" So I contacted them and provided my receipt information, only to be hit with I am sorry sir but you are over the 1 year time limit of our warranty so there is nothing we can do. REALLY ? Yes and mind you I was over the 1 year time limit by 5 days and the part sat on my shelf in my shop with the other parts for the build and were not touched until I needed them. I understand company's have time limits etc. But the fact that I have run into this before (not often) mind you but it happens as you know all projects don't follow a set timetable for 1 reason or another and yet every other time the other company's have been more than happy to take care of the problem. Granted I had to cover all shipping costs, which I was willing to do. hell I even told them up front if the rocker set had gone up in price I would be more than willing to pay the difference. So the long and short of it is I wanted to share with everyone just exactly what kind of company "Speedmasterusadc"-Pro Comp is and how they don't stand behind what they sell. SO BUYER BEWARE and I personally will never buy from sub par non USA made engine parts ever again. Hopefully this will save someone the loss of money I incurred. I would not recommend anything from this company EVER be bought form them solely based on the service I received. Hopefully this saves someone else the headache I had.

To be honest I wouldn't buy anything from Pro -comp. Everything I have ever bought from them was cheap knock offs of quality parts. they copied them almost to the T but with very poor quality parts and fitment. I bought their ignition package about 5 years ago for a 351 Cleveland I was building. Had an ignition box that was almost identical to a MSD 6a. Billet dizzy that was spitting image of the MSD, and a coil. Within a year the coil quit sparking, then the box burnt up, then the roll pin in the dizzy sheared off leaving me stranded every time. I also bout a set of roller rocker from them for the same motor and had one come completely apart on me after less than 500 miles. Only reason I bought this stuff was that I was on a tight budget and really couldn't afford to pay almost double for the name brand pieces. Well I learned the hard way.....sometimes you get what you pay for. So on my new motor I bought All MSD 6al, billet dizzy and coil...... been running for over year and a half flawlessly. Also went with Harland sharp roller rockers and they are very HIGH quality. So buyer be warned with the cheap Chinese knock offs!!!! They even had an article some time last year or so about the Chinese knock off in HOT ROD magazine.

Yeah Guys I had the same luck with "Pro Comp" parts I bought 2 GM HEI style distributors for my sons 89 Stang with a 302. It had a 2 piece drive assembly. The first drive broke, and it simply quit turning, which left my boy stranded. I had purchased it off Ebay and was told same thing out of warranty. So I bought another one. Thinking it was just a bad part. Well when the second one failed, it broke in the same place as the first one, but this time the piece fell into the roller timing chain and snapped it clean into. Now were really broke down. Very fortunately the engine has swimming pool pistons, and no bent valves. After trying to get them to warranty it, after the first one, and now the second one. I said screw it and went to the salvage yard, got a late model Dura Spark with the ignition box and wired it in. and end of problem. So the moral of the story stay away from "Pro Comp". They look good but, They Cheap Azzzed Junk!!! JTS 71 Mach1

That sounds like a three-fold testimony as to their lack of quality or willingness to back up their customer.

It helps the rest of us to know their track record for the future.

Thanks for sharing.

For sure guys. Everyone I have talked to has had similar results from their products and they are in fact Chinese made and try to copy brand name quality parts. I learned that lesson years ago when I had much less extra money to spend and had to buy and work on a budget. These rocker arms were a gift from my wife who didn't know better and was helped at a local parts store in the order and purchase. I have also spoke with the parts store to inform them. I am not upset with the parts store by any means, they were trying to help out and didn't defraud or mislead in any way. It was our local NAPA store and they are great guys. they even went to bat for me and spoke with speedmaster/pro-comp in my behalf saying that if it were parts from them even if they were past the warranty that new is new and new defective is new defective. They wanted to provide GOOD customer service for their customer. This didn't matter to speedmaster/pro-comp and they didn't care. All that mattered to them was the initial buck and profit they made. I haven't had quite the heart to even mention it to my wife, she would feel badly since she was just trying to help me out with the project and contribute. But anyway more than anything I just wanted to let everyone know and hopefully save someone else the loss of money and aggravation that I have had. ordered a set of Harland sharp rockers today ( USA made and a hell of a guarantee and quality pieces) I have used them many times in the past.
