I'm Here Because...

M1FF is from Western Australia and a lot of the conversation has centered around Australian cars, parts and alternate English spelling.

Look up some of his other threads and some light will be shone on the whole of the conversation.

I ain't gonna lie - I got a little lost myself.  LOL!

OK - "I'm Here Because..." when I was looking at buying my '71 Mach 1 on San Angelo Craigslist back in 2010, I didn't know much about the cars other than I'd always wanted one since I was 14.  I'd only seen maybe 2 or 3 others since the one I fell in love with in high school - all of them at my first duty station of Holloman AFB, near Alamogordo, New Mexico.  That was back in 1987-89, and literally had not seen any other Clydesdales since then.  So, I'm thinking about buying this rusty pile of junk in the shape of a '71 Mach 1, and figured I'd jump online to find out anything I could about the car, since the seller was throwing out all sorts of B.S. claims about it being 'rare,' collectible, valuable, etc.  I found a handful of Mach 1-specific, '71-'73-specific, and some general Mustang websites and forums, which I began perusing to see where I would find the most usable information.

This site, along with 7173Mustangs.com were the only ones that stuck.  VMF is not my cup of tea, because it's mostly just a bunch of Vintage guys putting down everybody else's 'non '64.5-'68 Mustangs' (seriously guys... let it go, they're ALL vintage Mustangs after all).

Over the years, I've gone through some spells of having 'forgotten' about this site, but it's still here and I'm trying harder these days trying to be a better member, not just in name (I check it at least every other day, and try to post something when I can).

Damn Good reason to be here. Eric

I'm her because I loved My 71 Mach1, and Fords in general. Once I got here, and became friends with all the guys, and saw the camaraderie, and care they had for our cars, and each other. You couldn't drive me away with a ball bat. The people is why I'm still Here!

How wonderful to bring total confusion to US / Australia relations.  Wink

Racewars is exactly the same as in the Fast and Furious films but with fewer cars changing hands for loosing!!  A WA car held the Australian National record for one year, we will get better.   This week end I have been involved in the Aston Martin Nationals held here in Perth.  I had to drive a V8 Vantage for a few hours.

Not as breath taking stunning as you might think but the 'slush box' is programmed to sound like a manual shift!  It even 'self blips' the engine when the paddle shifters are used for down shifts!  Overall gearing about the same as my 4.2ltr Daimler but with extra power and a 6 speed box that makes all the difference.  Thumbup

Sounds like pure torture to me. Sign Me UP!!! I'd like to thrash a Vantage for a while. It's one of the few later model cars that have peaked my interest. Most American Pony Cars are of the base models, good looks, and reasonable performance, with minimal creature comforts. Or the absolute ridiculousness of the Super Snake, or the Hell Cat variety. The Vantage still has a sophistication to it. While still delivering above level performance. I Like It.
