I FINALLY bought a Mach 1. She's a solid driver with a 4 toploader Hurst speed, not the original 351C-4V engine but the current 302 still has some zip to it. Someday I'm thinking of swapping a 351W into it as I have one sitting in the barn.
I grew up in the midwest and remember seeing a Mach 1 roam our town and ever since seeing that beautiful yet brutish tail end of a '70 Mach 1 I've wanted one. Life seemed to get in the way for a lot of years while looking for one but the stars aligned and I finally got one.
Awesome 70mach1. Congratulations! Welcome to the forum. Don't be afraid to post some pics. I got my first Mach 1 a few months ago. So I know how you feel. Again welcome to the club.
Ok - hang on...
Here she is coming home. (Why are they always a "she"? I think I'm going with a "he" this time...)
Supposedly it has a racing background out of somewhere in Georgia. I need to track that info down for historic value. How to do it? Title search and contact previous owners or ?
Gotta get some Magnum 500 wheels on it, get the hood turn signals working, adjust the angle & paint the rear wing flat black, adjust the reverse linkage (If you shift deep into the reverse position it will somehow stay in reverse mode and locks you out of going into any gear until I reach underneath and slide the reverse linkage to it's proper position - like it's over-centered or something), paint the rear turn signal bezels correctly. Already picked up a new aluminum 4 core radiator & a smaller diameter steering wheel for it as my leg is getting squished between the door panel & the steering wheel while shifting and it's starting to bug me. She's a beauty and she's all mine !
Very Nice Mach 1! HE is really good shape from the pictures that I can see. There are some people that can check the history of the car, but it comes with a price and they may not find anything on the racing part if they didn't register the serial #s in professional events. Also if the events published them. The reports mainly show where it was bought, the stock specs of the car, how many times it was registered and insurance claims. Every car has his or her story. It can be hard to find out with facts. I would call previous owners if you have that info. If that turns up good pay and get a full report. A lot of the guys on here have done this with their Mach 1's.
I already did a Marti report on it. Good to know how it started out life. Only things that have changed is that it was "Light Ivy Yellow" (#2) paint code and had a 351C-4V at one time.
I did get another name of a previous owner to the fellow that I bought it from so I'll try and find them and see what they know.
Congratulations! Very good looking car...I would be excited too! When you learn more please share. Also post some additional pictures, I would be interested in seeing more!
Thanks for sharing the additional pictures...the car looks really really good! You must be excited to take it out and show it off, or at least I would. Cool Buggy, they're really neat, too!
