351 C or W

I have a `69 Mach 1 but the engine i have i believe is a 351 Cleveland. I have it striped down and am going to rebuild it the way i want but i was wonder to have some tole tale signs that i am right and it is not a Windsor. Does any one have any knowledge of way i can be 100 percent certain?

Real simple Find the thermostat housing. If it attaches to the engine block next to the distributor it is a 351 Cleveland. If the Thermostat housing is attached to the intake manifold it is a 351 Windsor. Simple as that, since it is a 69 it should actually be a Windsor. As the Cleveland didn't officially come out until 1970. I'm not 100 percent sure if any Clevelands snuck into any 69 Mach1's or not??? I'm sure someone else can tell us? Hope it helps JTS 71 Mach1

The Cleveland fuel pump has two bolts that are up and down of the pump on the block. Windsor has side by side bolt pattern. Hope this helps

Yes thank you it does help alot and ya i do know that stock for the 69 is a Windsor but when i bought the project the guy actually had two engine for it. One was literally just a block with nothing attached to it (also a Cleveland) and then one that was complete but it seems like he just left it sitting outside on a stand and the pistons seized to the walls. I personally prefer a Cleveland anyway and to make it fit into my 69 isn't a problem at all.
Once again thank you for your help.

Thanks for sharing that advice guys! I was curious myself on how to easily identify a Cleveland motor. Much appreciated!

In addition to the location of the radiator hose, I believe the 351c has 8 bolts in the valve covers and the 351w has 6.
