1973 Mach 1 351C 2V w/power steering. Ok today I put some Hooker headers Part #HOK-6921HKR with 3" opening with 3 bolt donut gasket. They Fit wonderfully to the engine and cleared everything. Super Easy. Ok now the bad part, they were a different length from the ones on the car which wasn't the right ones. The exhaust past that will not work. I could chop and add to them but I really don't like the system anyways. Bending a header backing the car on the trailer was a blessing. (I will load pictures later) Short story is the old headers was forced on with a lot of hammer engineering.
Ok I'm wanting to do a complete exhaust system from the headers back since my new headers are shorter and will not work with my current system with turbo mufflers. I've done some research and have found no luck. I want a full set I can do myself. It's very important that I do all the work on this car.(Pride) I have welders chop saws but not a exhaust tubing bender. So a prefab set with do it yourself weld on reducers would be great. I'm looking for an H-Pipe Design for low end torque and even flow. I like Flow-master and Borla, but I'm open to anything that works good and sounds great. If any of you have a similar set up and didn't go to the muffler shop or just have the old mustang wisdom, your advice would be very much appreciated.

The only header back exhaust systems I've found in 2.5 is from pypes or some summit racing packages. Pypes will be a maybe but I know I don't like the summit mufflers. I found a full Flowmaster kit for a 1970 fast back. I know they are not the same as a 73 but wondering if anybody has modified them to fit?

I certainly can understand the "pride" aspect of doing it yourself. My friend did not want to spend $500 to have a shop install an exhaust on his 64 falcon so he did exactly what you want to do "fabricated it" himself. The only pre-bent pieces he purchased was the section that went over the rear axles. He used the same ones that fit on a 65 Mustang. But from the headers back to that section he custom made the exhaust.
Maybe you can do something similar by purchasing the section that goes over the rear axles for a 73 Mustang then custom fabricate the exhaust from the headers back. It's "almost" a straight line back once you figure out the angles off the headers.
Hope this helps.

I can get you a correct / concours system - 2 1/4 is the max size
will have regular tubing bends like the original - not mandrel bent
I haven't used one but know 2 guys who used the pypes systems and like them

I've found that the rear pipes that go over the Axle is the same from 65 to 73. I have a c4 in my 73. I wonder if that is actually the difference in the systems. Thank you MustangMike for the info. The muffler shop wants $1,200. I still rather do it myself even if it cost more. Thank you Ohiomustang! would you have anything without mufflers so I could put flow master 44 series on them. I'd prefer 2-1/2 but I can manage with 2-1/4.

Hello. I like the system you put together, can you tell me who you purchased from? I am assuming online and an approximate price would be great. Thank you

I bought everything from summit and flowmaster. I recommend you get the mufflers separate bc the exhaust on the pypes system are cheap and sound cheap too. Headers were 180.00, pypes x-style was around 250.00. Collector reducer\extender was 35.00, 44 series flowmaster were 75 a piece, and tips were 40.00. I bought the mufflers and tips from flowmaster. system is all stainless steal.
