I'm about to come into possession of my second Mustang, and my first Mach 1 this week. The car is a 1970 Mustang Mach 1, originally painted in Competition Yellow with a factory 351C, and it going to need a lot of work.

I came here to learn from you gentlemen about Mach 1s. I trust I'm in good hands.

Thank you to everyone.

I saw the H Code 70 Mach 1 for the first time last night on a farm out here in South Dakota. Met the nicest folks out there, it was sitting outside the barn when I pulled up. As I looked over the car which was originally from Nebraska, the takeaways are this: the 351C is gone, no interior, and the 9 inch rear end is gone too, with an 8 inch replacing it. That said, both rear quarters, and a small section of the floor pan under the driver's feet is in need of replacement. The torque boxes are solid, as are the frame rails, shock towers and the cowl. Even the original battery tray and apron are in very good shape.

The owner is selling because he has another child on the way, and neither his father or his cousin want the car because they both have M Code 70 Mach 1s and don't have room for another

At least now you know what you are headed into.

The Cleveland and the nine inch are not hard to find - just show up with allotted cash. The interior is a replaceable item although there are always little things that need locating.

It's not a cheap venture but the outcome can be rewarding.

Please let us know how it all develops.

Sounds like the infrastructure is still good...which is always a good thing. Like Steve indicated, the parts are all out there it will just take some locating and $$'s. Let us know how it pans out and of you've taken some pictures please post them.

This is her.

(Yes, those are blue flames painted on the front end. No, I am not keeping them).

Loaded up the FMX Transmission, the interior and the dash separately as they were out of the car, then trailed the car to my buddy's garage on Sunday. The 351C is long gone and the car currently comes with a 351W. I'm not interested in the Windsor and plan on going to a 351C, but a 4V. I had a 351C in a '72 Ranchero I used to own and I just loved that motor.

Sadly, with the exception of the FMX, all of the original components are long gone, including the build sheet and the buck tag. So, I figure it is mine to build as I please, being as respectful as I can to the way it rolled out of the factory in Metuchen in 1970.

I envision it with a 351C 4V, and switching over from a FMX to a Top Loader 4-speed. I am on the fence concerning a non-original Shaker hood set-up. The rest will be original as I can possibly manage.

Regardless, I am going to send for the Marti report next week.

Let the fun begin!

I would agree with your game plan. A 351C 4V and 4 speed top loader. A shaker hood would be nice if the finances allow.

There is no shame on not having a numbers matching car. As you said - you are free to build it as you see fit.

Keep us posted with the build. I love to follow builds.
