I agree completely. I'm going for a deep rich sound with a dirty idle. Fitment and Structure comes first with my project, but also a unique sound that will turn heads without the crazy looks.lol

Well said JTS! For simplicity sakes I installed the 2 1/2" Shelby style exhaust on my car which has the bologna style glass packs (no H-pipe) and exits just before the rear wheels.
I originally installed this set up as a temporary exhaust system because it was a low cost system to use when I fired my motor up for the first time. However, I have grown to like the look, the sound, and the clean installation underneath the car since there are no clamps and only 1 hanger on each side.
It has a nice low rumble at idle and almost growls when you give it a few quick revs. However, I am very curious what it will sound like when I start driving it and get up into the higher RPM's. If anyone has this exhaust system or knows anyone who has it installed I would be curious to know how they like it.

Sorry I haven't worked any further into this yet. The guy that owns and operates the machine shop where my motor is got sick and died out of the blue. While I am really sorry his passing and he was guy I liked talking to. It leaves me in a situation. I have been talking with his nephew who I know and everything seems to be able to be solved but they are messing with the arrangements and such and no one is working on business stuff yet. I may need to go all gangster and steal my own motor from his shop.

That is sad and unexpected news. I am sure the family is scrambling to try and work things out with open job orders. Did you get a sense there may be a problem with completing your engine within a reasonable time period?

Bad thing is/was it was done aside from a respray of the valve covers because they got something on them. So that isn't a problem just getting my engine in general. With back to school shopping etc it probably isn't a bad thing that this delay has occurred because I am not trying to stretch money to get progress on the car. My boy turns 15 at the end of this month so I have roughly 6 months for things to get done. I would say that is plenty of time, but looking back at the last 8 months I haven't made a lot of actual progress.

I agree with JTS...maybe things do happen for a reason. And just as an FYI, I am about 6 months of course on the completion of my project. There is always something that happens that throws me off so I have learned to take it day by day!

OK, my $0.02 worth. I did a bit of Race Car prep and crewed at Bathurst (read top StockCar) when we came 1st in Class. Don't claim to be a full expert, just to have a few clues.
IME there is no point in tuning a street car for full top end performance at max RPM because you won't use it enough to make the crappy bottom end worth it.
Select components for best performance around the engine's max torque RPM. On the street (despite what you think) this is where you will do nearly all of your driving. Maxing the torque will tend to minimise your fuel useage - improve gas mileage.
You will get flow-on improvements to bottom and top ends. Not as much top as is possible and still very driveable at the bottom.
If you have access, get on a dyno - I am lucky enough to do this and the difference is jaw-dropping. If your exhaust fabricator has a 'dyno mate' - even better.

I agree with Mach72 in his recommendation of 2 1/2" mandrel bent pipes. At one time I had a 72 sportsroof sprint. It was set up with glass packs that exited ahead of the rear wheels. I ended up having to put resonators at the exhaust exits to quite it down. And that was with the stock exhaust manifolds! I highly recommend Flowmaster 40 series mufflers, they provide a great deep resonate tone and in some case increase HP over open headers! The cross-pipe is a good idea too, but know in advance that it will change the tone of the exhaust. I've heard it described as not being louder or quieter but rather with a higher pitch. In any case make sure it's not too much car for a young driver. I had to learn the hard way at that age & my son did also. It may be a rite of passage, but you don't want him to end up in a ditch upside-down!
Good luck & keep the shiny side up!,
