carb Help

Ok so as a member of the newer generation I have been studying the carb as I have no idea what I'm doing. I have a 9627s carter AFB carb I'm putting on my 351c.below are a few pics of the carb sittijg on the manifold and for some reason it just don't seem complete. Starting with the secondary throttle linkage I can't find it in the engine bay "assuming I am suppose to hook something up to the secondary one" being I didn't take this all apart I am not sure how it goes back together if you guys have any suggestions for where linkages, fuel lines and vaccum lines go I would appreciate it thanks

FROM WHAT I SEE THE KICK DOWN IS MISSING NOT THE SECONDARY LINKAGE.KICK DOWN IS FOR AUTO TRANSMISSION.
IM ASSUMING YOU ARE REFERING TO NO THROTTLE PLATES ON REAR WHICH IM NOT SURE IS MISSING.

Sorry, but I am not familiar enough with what I am looking at to advise you.

Well first things first. You need to remove the intake manifold and clean all the pretty red silicone off, and get it out of the lifter valley. Because just as you can see little balls, globs and stringlets along the edge of the intake on the outer side it looks the same underneath, and once the oil gets to it. It can come loose and get into the oil and go through the entire engine. Your only hope then is the oil filter catches it, but that is not usually the case and the damage can be catastrophic. Ok now to your questions. On the throttle cable side the little post above where the throttle cable hooks is as everyone else has said is for the kick down rod that goes to the automatic trans, if yours is a standard then there would be no linkage. Now on the other side if you look behind the round black choke housing/ kinda looks like a hockey puck. There is a small link just laying there. That link should hang straight down and go in the open hole in the lower linkage for the rear barrel release mechanism. As most Carter AFB's have the large vacumn port on the front side it should be routed back to the brake booster. Ford carbs have the port on the rear side of the carb. One of the small front ports can go to the distributor vacumn advance. If you have an Auto trans you should have a metal line that goes down the back of the engine that attaches to the trans with a short hose. It should be hooked to a vacumn source on the intake. There should also be a vacumn can on the inner fender, that should have vacumn to it. That's about all I can think of. Hopefully some one else can add some more till you get it solved. But seriously get that intake off and clean all that damn silicone off before it causes you some real headaches. Rule #1 Silicone is the trademark of a Lazy Mechanic! JTS 71 Mach1

I cleaned all the surfaces and applied a small line of silicone around outermost area. Can you have the pan against the intake manifold without using silicone. It didn't make sense to me to seal metal against metal.
What do you suggest I use between the pan and manifold, if anything. Also I put the paper like gasket down on the block followed by the pan on top of that then the manifold. I clean and scrubbed and decreased all areas

You simply put the valley pan down on clean heads and intake, as it is the gasket and does not require any sealant. At the ends of the intake throw away the end seals. You should use a 1/4" thick bead of ultra black silicone. When applied this thick it stays together and does not come apart in little globs etc. Just make sure all is clean dry and degreased, apply the bead of silicone, lay the valley pan down, and set the manifold in place. Hope this helps JTS 71 Mach1

this seems to be as good a place as any to thank jts for his help on a matter i had, and to vouch for the information he takes the time to share. after reading a few of jts' posts i find much good, accurate knowledge.

as an example: i just now learned that i dont know everything???
prolly true, but i aint done learning yet. (joe says, trying to console himself) Sad lol
