Brake Shoe size for Q code
#1
Hi there, This may seem a real stupid question to many but what was the factory size for rear brake shoes on a 72 Q code mustang. I think someone along the way has fitted 10 x 1.3/4" shoes to mine but I think it should be 10 x 2". The reason I am asking as I want the get new drums and don't want to under size them by getting the wrong ones....HELP

Not sure SCo_hmmthink if you can tell just by the Q code. Look at the door tag and get the axle code then use one of the decoders to tell exactly which rearend you should have. As Ford used lots of different sizes of brake shoes, drums, axle sizes, number of splines etc. So I believe you need to know a lot more then just a Q code. To get the correct parts. Maybe someone else knows a little more??? JTS 71 Mach1

thanks for that. Seems Henry Ford only wanted to know about the style of diff 8" or 9" and the pumpkin ratio and drive type, open or LSD. no ref on spec sheets to brake shoe size for drums. I suspect someone along the way has fitted 1.3/4 shoes to the car because it was all they could get on the day. Thanks again...
