Strangely, I seem to be one of the few "classic" Mustang owners who also likes the much-denigrated "II".
To me, the only problem visually is the dinky wheels and tires. Put a decent set of 14" or 15" wheels and tires on one and it looks great as far as I'm concerned. When new, these cars drove great...handled well, felt tight and was fun to toss aound. Unfortunately, the big rubber "biscuits" that gave the car such a great ride when newstarted to deteriorate almost immediatly. The result was a car that very quickly felt like all four wheels wanted to go in a different direction...it got real loose and sloppy in only a year or two. Most people who talk about them remember that factor the most.
Today, simply replacing those rubber discs with modern updated and improved units from a late-model Crown Vic makes all the difference in the world. I know I am in the minority, but a well put-together "II" is not mechanically expensive to do and is a great daily driver.
Unfortunately, cosmetic and appearance stuff can be hardto find and often pricy.

REBUILDING A 77 COBRA II WITH MY NEPHEW. GROWING UP IN THE 70'S TO ME A MUSTANG WAS A MUSTANG WAS A MUSTANG SO I LIKE THEM ALL. THE NICE THING IS AS THE ARTICLE STATED IT KEPT THE MODEL FROM DYING AND THE THE ENTHUSIASTS KEPT IT FROM BECOMING THE TURD THAT THE PROBE WAS. THE CLOSEST VEHICLE I KNOW TO RUNNING FIFTY YEARS IS THE CORVETTE (WHICH MOST PEOPLE CANT AFFORD OR ITS PRACTICLE FOR) AND IT DID NOT EXIST IN 83. MOST CORVETTE PEOPLE WILL TELL THERE IS ONE 83 BUT IT SITS AT THE PLANT IN KENTUCKY NEVER HITTING THE ROAD SO I SAY F* THE CORVETTE AND HERES TO FIFTY YEARS OF ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST NAME PLATE ON ANY VEHICLE Drink_to_that

Actually, there is one '83 Vette. It was a prototype 84 test mule with an '82 drivetrain, built and titled so it could be driven on public roads for long term testing. It was stolen by a random thief one night from a hotel parking lot while on the road for testing.
There is quite an interesting story about the car as well as the guy who stole it.

I like the mustang II's. if not for them the mustang name may have died out!! I remember when they introduced the Probe. It was supposse to take over for the mustang, thank god that never happened. I redid a 74 mustang II for my nephew 2 years ago for his 16th birthday and graduation present. His first car and he loves it.
