Ok this is pretty cut and dry but there are some important steps to follow or you may do damage to a couple things under the hood.
ok so the tools you will need are
10mm wrench/ratchet
8mm wrench/ratchet
a razor blade
Allen wrench set (depending on the aftermarket throttle body)
you may need some additional tools depending on your specific setup.
Ok as if you going from stock to aftermarket these are the basic steps to follow.......
first things first you need to remove the air intake from the throttle body which should be as simple as UN-tightening the screw clamp on the intake that attaches to the throttle body.
Once removed the next step is to remove all attached plugs and the cable. there should be only 1 plug for the TPS on the (standing on the passenger side of the engine bay) left side of the throttle body and its an easy clip/pigtail type.
the cable is easy just rotate the piece it is in and it should just slip right out once you pull the knotch out at the bottom.
the plastic piece attached above the cable just pops off so thats easy also.
the spring is a bit of a pain i recommend using a small pair of needle nose pliers and grabbing the hook of the spring and rotating it slowly till it can come straight out because if you try to do it by hand (which i did) it will take a while and thus why i say use the needle nose pliers.
ok now that EVERYTHING has been unplugged/removed from the stock throttle body now you can proceed to unbolting it.
first thing you need to do i remove the bracket that is on the back of the shaker with the 10mm so that you can raise the back up because the TOP LEFT bolt in the throttle body is attached to the bracket on the back of the shaker.
Once thats removed you can start unbolting the throttle body (8mm)
Once you get all the bolts out if the throttle body has not seperated from the intake just give it a small bump with one hand while holding it with the other to separate it from the intake.
If your lucky the stock gasket will not be stuck on too badly (mine was stuck on VERY bad) this is where you use the RAZOR BLADE and gently scrape the old gasket off the INTAKE so thats its clean bare metal.
Now depending on what brand throttle body you buy they have different bolts than the stock ones and some are actual 5 side bolt heads others have allen wrench heads. I got the BBK one and it had allen wrench heads.
Now you will only need 3 OF THE 4 BOLTS that come with the throttle body.... you will RE USE the SAME bolt from the TOP LEFT of the throttle body which is different from the others because the head is in the middle of the bolt instead of the end for mounting the bracket.
So you will re use that one.
Your new throttle body SHOULD come with a new gasket that is designed to be a direct fit. No they are not always perfect however most fit pretty well. Take a clean wrag and a cleaning solution and wipe down the bare metal on the intake where the old gasket was and then dry it so that it is a 100% clean surface.
take you gasket and place it on the back of the throttle body your putting in a have the 3 normal bolts ready to begin threading so that way your gasket doesnt shift when you put the throttle body on there.
just get the bolts started maybe 3 or 4 turns each and then make sure the gasket didnt shift or that a bolt when through the wrong hole from the gasket moving. Once you check that go ahead and hand tighten all the bolts down so that the throttle body is somewhat snug against the intake.
Now depending on the bolts you have grab your tool and the 1 different bolt for the top left. Ensure that the bracket fits back into the same spot it was on the stock throttle body. now hand tighten that top left one till its snug.
Ok now take your tool(s) and tighten them down using an X pattern for example top right first, bottom left second, top left third, and then bottom right last untill they are all tight (as tight as you can get them).
once that is done do a once over check to ensure that there are no gaps or miss alignments with the new throttle body.
Ok now to begin re attaching everything !!!
plug the TPD plug back in, insert the cable in the same way you took it out and pop the plastic piece back on above the cable and then insert the spring back in.
Now re attach you air intake and tighten it down till its snug.(you may have some minor fitment issues with the new throttle body so take a wet wrag and wipe the INSIDE of the rubber/ plastic intake so its a little wet and it should slip right on.
now on the back of your newly installed aftermarket throttle body there is a small bolt that the piece the cable goes into rests on....
that is where you adjust your IDLE at.
Try to start your car and if it dies immediately you need to turn it counter clockwise and if it idles high go clockwise.... now you probably will need a allen wrench for this unless it has a head on it....
but most have an allen wrench insert in the back of it...
take the allen wrench (should be a 3) and you have to go behind it on the engine side of the bolt to rotate it... remember low idle turn counter clockwise .... high idle turn it clockwise...... now i would do about a half rotation at a time till you find the sweet spot where your normal idle is at..... HOWEVER if you run your ac you may want to adjust your idle to a slightly higher one since in most cases it will kill or almost kill the engine (especially in manuals when you go to neutral)
let the car run once you find that spot so the computer cal learn.
then drive it around the block a few times and your good !!!!
now if you get a check engine light your idle is set too high...
the only time you get a check engine light is if its too high !!!
Ultimately you should use a tuner application however the stock cars computer WILL learn the new throttle body and compensate for it without a tuner... it just makes the process faster lol
Anyway that just about sums it up if there are any questions dont hesitate to ask.
