Keep Aluminum Looking Good

I thought I would share I tip my good friend had shared with me about keeping aluminum parts from oxidizing. The trick is Pledge. Yes Pledge, the furniture cleaner. In order to prevent oxidation of aluminum parts, just spray them with pledge. The oil in the furniture cleaner will soak into the aluminum and prevent or slow down oxidation process of the metal.

I just finished cleaning up the pieces below that I found at a swap meet. The pieces are easily over 25 years old. I bead blasted the parts and then saturated them with Pledge and allowed the oils to soak into the metal for two days before thoroughly washing them with water prior to installing on the motor. If I had just blasted them and washed them, there would be chance I would end up with water stains in the aluminum.

Once the motor is up and running I will continue to spray Pledge on them routinely to prevent the oxidation process from taking over while at the same time maintaining that fresh look of a new motor.

Very simple, very easy. I hope this tip is helpful.

Great tip - thanks for passing it along.

Let us know if there is any change or yellowing after the heat of the motor.

Gotta love simple and easy!!
I only have a small 'garnet blast' cabinet. I did the brake calipers and mounting brackets of my partner's MINI in it. Then two coats of engine enamel and baked them at 120C. No need to strip off rubbers at those temps.
