Hey everyone,
I should be leaving Afghanistan in a couple of weeks or less! I got a budget of around 3000-3500 for my 73 mach that I havent seen in person yet . I am sure I will take a few pics and post them up. I already play on new rims/tires, exhaust, radio/speakers, fuel tank/lines, and anything the brakes need (probably almost completely new). Hopefully I can stay within my budget...if not the wife said I could maybe go over . I do have questions on the items I am wanting. Main one is I was trying to find a flowmaster exhaust setup for my car but couldnt find a setup already made for the 71-73 cars. Am I just being silly and looking in the wrong places? What have you guys done for an exhaust setup? I almost bought a set of 15x7 and 15x8 magnum 500 rims with 225x60 and 275x60 tires on them from CJPonies. Is that a good setup? I almost went with the original rims b/c I love them to death, but I think I am just going to keep them as a spare set since they are only 14". Any advice and opinions is much appreciated! Thank you

Congrats on coming home! Thanks for the service. Personally I would go with a MagnaFlow system. They simply sound better. Flowmasters sound like a late 70's Trans Am with the air cleaner lid turned upside down, they Suck! Just my opinion. I don't think Flowmasters offers complete systems do they??? Just my thoughts. Glad you're coming home. JTS 71 Mach1

I can't offer any advice sorry but Congrats on coming home as well.
I have Flowmasters on mine and I think they sound ok from inside the car but I haven't heard it from the outside, my wife won't take it for a drive so I can hear. She is scared she will bend it on me.

Thank you for your service and welcome back.
Take of the necessities first and then sort out the extras.
PYPES claim to sell a system (SFM04-2.5") for the 71/73's as well as Flowmaster? I just bought a complete (stock type) system from Don at Ohio Mustang Supply but have yet to get back to the U.S. to see it.
Anyway, glad your coming home. Enjoy the Mach 1!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
AND CONGRATS ON COMING HOME
I HAVE THE MAGNA FLOW STAINLESS STEEL SYSTEM ON MY 69 351W AND WHEN I WAS PULLING IT IN TO THE BODY SHOP FOR PAINT A COUPLE OF GUYS ASKED WHAT SYSTEM IT WAS. SAID THEY BOTH NEVER HEARD ONE LIKE THAT AND REALLY LIKED IT. YOU COULD ALSO TRY CJ PONY PARTS (CJPONYPARTS.COM) I THINK I SAW THE FLOWMASTER SYSTEM OR SOMETHING LIKE IT WITH THEM.

Welcome back home on your safe return when you get back.
I still remember my ride back from IRAQ on a cool 777 in 1st clas style.
My Marine Corps unit loved that plane and we drank alot of beer that flight.
As far as exhaust is concerned I dont know alot other than size matters on diameter of the pipe you use and the materials used in construction.
Stainless steel in my opinion is the way to go and 3 inch pipes make it loud but a lot less back pressure.
If you wish to hear your radio and not the pipes then smaller diameter would be better. I cannot recomend any mufflers because I really dont know alot about the differences in them. I do know that several hot rod shops here in Denver have blasted me about my small exhaust pipes and how restrictive they are.

So glad to hear you'll be home soon. Thank you very much for your service. We all love our country, thanks for making it safer. Be extra careful these last couple weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your Mach 1. When you get around to buying an exhaust system for your Mach1, don't do what I did. I ordered a complete stock system without realizing that there are two different types of tailpipes. My Mach 1 has cut outs in the rear valance and should have the straight exhaust tips. I ordered the system with tailpipes that turn down just before they reach the valance. It's not a big deal just something to be aware of.
good luck & stay safe
