Shouldn't be a problem as long as all the pieces match. They came both ways from the factory and there were no differences, except one was solid lifter and one was hydraulic. There is even a roller cam set that will retrofit into your Cleveland. I believe I saw it in Jeg's catalog. JTS 71 Mach1

I personally would scrap that block and find another that can be safely bored to within 30 thousandths.
I had that problem with my cleveland engine years ago and the blocks are only designed for 30 thousandths boring.
Any after that will lead to overheating issues and possible stress fractures like my current block has now for that same reason.
building that motor with a good block is cheap insurance rather than going through $500 dollars in gaskets only to find a stress fracture and overheating issue rear its ugly head.

If you want some good pistons and reconditioned rods i have 7 with less than 3000 miles on them from my last cleveland. They are .040 and have arp rod studs. I broke a valve and destroyed one of the pistons, but you can buy a single piston and rings from Summit.

Having dealt with this problem through the years. The Cleveland had the problem of inconsistent wall thickness in the block. So some blocks could be bored as high as even .060" but they need to be sonic checked before even thinking of that. It was always considered to be safe going .030". But there have been a few rare instances where even that was to much as Master Blaster described. So if your engine quys have done several Clevelands it would be safe to say they should know what to look for. Good luck JTS 71 Mach1

Guys, i was able to find a motor here locally that a guy had in a street rod something like a 32 ford and he had it rebuilt and ran it for 20,000 miles and it worked fine when he pulled it out to go to a newer stlye small block ,looking for some more bottom end torque.I cannot remember what he bought to replace it.Long story short i know the guy from way back when i had my 69 and he and his wife would be at some shows with their 65 FB.He is a friend of my brother in law and my wife use to work with his wife before we met.He has a good rep as being honest but i know you take a chance when buying used or getting machine work done for that matter. It is bored .040 also and he thought 10 on the crank and 20 on the rods but could not remember for sure.It has been stored since 1999 and oiled and kept in a heated garage. He said when his friend told him he knew of someone(me) he checked it out and everything still looked good.He also said he might have a set of 2v heads he could throw in also and the price seems very fair.I am going to buy it.
I figure if it was going to go or heat it should have done it before 20,000 miles.

I agree that the shop guys at the machine shop should have thier ducks in line and know what to look for.
The more its bored out the thinner the walls are in the cylinders and the more heat is generated. Plus if you ever race it on the drag strip its like taking chances and rolling the dice.
If you are located in the Denver area I have a good block you can have for free at 30 thousandths bore.
It comes with a good rotating assembly but two pistons were dropped and chipped when removed.
Its free...to you as a club member....
