Don
4 Heads, a pair of each style, open and closed chambers came with the block. The open chamber heads with screw-in studs and guideplates.
Best regards

I'm just wondering about some details:

I've read in literature, that all 351 cleveland blocks with cast "D2AE-CA" should come with 4 bolt mains.
One of my blocks doesn't.
Cast "D2AE-CA" and "1K4" is found but also 2 bolt mains! Wow
Is this regular and the literature quotes wrong?

Best regards
Frank

Open heads with screw in studs IF ORIGINAL would have been 72 r code HO heads - but usually someone modified them

Ford mixed and match motor parts [ blocks ] to keep the line moving
People have found 2 bolt mains in Q code mustangs
Have also found 4 bolt mains in H code torinos and even station wagons.

Yes that is all true. As far as 4 bolt mains go the fact of the matter is no year or style guaranteed you the 4 bolt main block. Sad but true. Ford indiscriminately used 2 or 4 bolt main blocks depending upon what was available at the time and on the line. Those that are supposed to have the 4 bolt main option have a better than average chance to have the correct block but it is not a guarantee. I have taken apart countless original engines and rebuilt them and it can go either way 2 bolt or 4 bolt. The same thing goes on the cars that were supposed to have 2 bolt mains. I have done 2 2bbl carb clevelands that had the 4 bolt blocks and they were very original and documented cars. Unless you are bent on having an exact match I would not be two concerned. As far as strength goes unless you are building a monster the 2 bolt main blocks are more than strong enough. I am at work now but If you still want I think one of the books I have would decode your pieces. Just let me know.

Do you still have the web address for the site where you got the info? I would be interested since when researching a project you can never have too many sources of information. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 places until you can piece together the story by bits here and there. Thanks

All '72 up Cleves had open chamber heads.

"Cobra Jets" were 429 and only available in '71.
351 CJS are technically not "Cobra Jet".

Too much 351C info out there is just WRONG. I've got period correct original Ford factory literature that refers multiple times to a "351C Cobra Jet". Loosely interpreted, the term "Cobra Jet" (as Ford used it) applies to the similar cam timing events these engines had in common (ie: CobraJet camshaft) plus the other parts completing the pkg. The "Cobra Jet" originated when dealer Tasca Ford put together a combination of OEM Ford off-the-shelf engine parts on a (highly successful) 428 1/4 miler; Ford made the Tasca combo an option & labeled it 428 Cobra Jet. The 428CJ was the first Cobra Jet (mid yr '68), 429CJ in 1970 & 351CJ in '71. Only the 428 & 429 were offered as SCJ (Super Cobra Jet). Interesting that the 351CJ was a low compression engine compared to other Ford performance offerings in 1971 & prior. I have another post detailing the different 351C engines if one cares to search. History lesson over.
