The car that I can not buy
#1
My grandpa sold his 'R' code 1970 mach 1 about two years ago to one of my dad's friends. Needless to say I see it about once every year since then just sitting in the gentleman's garage. He has however spent about 15k on new parts for it and is planning on doing a full body job on it. I have tried several times in the past two years to buy it from him, but with no luck. I honestly can say I feel like I will never have a better chance at one of these cars. I used to play in this car galore when I was younger and loved it from the moment I saw it. The plan is to one day own a 70 mach, but for now I will just be happy with the 73 I acquired not too long ago. The car gods must not be happy with me. Probably one good reason is I helped work on a buddy's 94 camaro all last summer. Oh well, I will never let my grandpa forget about that car. I told him if he sells his 64 GTO before I get a chance to buy it he will probably fall from his stairs....just saying :)

It's not over yet!

I would make sure that the gentleman that bought your granddad's Mach is well aware of your desire to own it and then begin to put back the money now to have the opportunity when it presents itself.

On the contrary, I think that helping a friend with a Camaro is like helping the really poor. You know those who can't help themselves :) Being a great example to a friend will always bring a blessing.

As an owner of a 73 and a former owner of a 390 69 Mach 1 you may just find yourself in love with the four leaf clover you over looked earlier!

Keep being Patient and keep putting money away, sounds to me like the guy is restoring it for you Biggrin so the price will probably keep going up, one day they will sell it, it always happens.

Ditto on being patient. Hopefully your dad's friend will give you first chance at it if he every decides to sell.

The one thing I wish to share with you is the story of my car. It was originally ordered by a friend of my father. It was love at first sight and I used to see it every Friday parked across the street from our local YMCA and always dreamed of owning it. Twelve years later I found it in the back of a body shop the original owner had passed away and it was left abandoned then moved to the back lot of this body shop. I was in less then pristine condition but I wanted it. I asked the body shop owner about it and he didn't know if It was for sale and who exactly owned it. Well long story short I didn't give up and tracked down the owner and it's been mine now for 30+ years. So never give up everything is for sale if the price is right. Except my car.lol
