I am starting to agree with you Keith. I see a lot of people running the magnums on there cars. I just ran past a couple pictures of a 73 mach with a set of polished slotted rims and it looked really nice. I think I will take you up on your advice and keep the rims and just get them polished up. I always like standing out from the rest. Keeping the original rims makes the car just a little better in my mind. I will say I am not liking the steering wheel that much. That will have to be changed for sure.

The Magnums do look good, but as you said the 73 Aluminum wheels look great and they are different than the rest of the crowd.

I switched to the Ford Aluminum wheels on my 73 convertible. My car came original with the dog dish caps and trim rings; I switched to the Sports Wheel hubcaps back in the late 70's, but two years ago I found a nice original set of the 73 Aluminum wheels. It gave the car a whole different look. It took me a while to get use to them, but I like them a lot. The make reproductions of the center cap sections as they usually need replacing after all these years.

Here are a couple of pics:

I am definitely liking the aluminum rims. Good choice, good find and great looking car.

The pictures shared by "Rare pony" show how good those wheels can look with a good cleaning and polished to a high shine. If it were me, I'd definitely stick with them.
Stay safe, Keith

Just got done talking to my father for about an hour about just my car. He will be replacing the whole brake system and gas tank. He mentioned my car is 1 of 1727 with that paint/trim code. So I am pretty happy with that. He mentioned most of the interior has been swapped from ginger to black and what pieces were not swapped the person painted black (which now looks kinda blah). He already found a 72 and 73 machs wrecked and is going to try and get a couple of black original pieces for half the reproduction prices. He did find me an original flip-up gas cap which I didn't know about. He said it had a mismatched mustang cap from another year on it. Also, he said he looked over the car real good and the only rust he found was in the trunk near where the gas neck goes through to gas tank. He said I wont have to pay hardly anything for body work. He said he was going to see if the carb is worth rebuilding (its an edelbrock). He said he was going to get a double-pump holley if its not worth rebuilding. The last time the car was licensed was in 1995 according to the license plate tags. However, he said the all the edges of the gaskets are colored brightly and not burnt, the engine is a colored blue, and the transmission is colored nice as well. He also said the tires look like they were brand new prior to whomever letting the car sit. He says the engine sounds great...no knocking or awkward sounds. He says the drive train was probably rebuilt and then the car was left to sit somewhere. So I am thinking I will just focus on making sure to get the car painted glow gold and detail the car nicely before any drive train work.

When you're looking for carb. parts for your edelbrock, keep in mind that Carter Competition carbs. use the same parts. I've used an Edelbrock rebuild on a Carter, and visa versa. Personally I'd stick with the Edelbrock. Edelbrocks and Carters commonly come in a 625 c.f.m. design. That might seem a little small but trust me they're big enough to make that Mustang really run. In fact last week I wound my 351cj to 41[/quote]00 r.p.m. in 3rd and it barked the tires going into 4th. Man did that car pull hard in 3rd! I'm running 3.73/1 rear cogs. A double pumper offers a ton of parts and pieces to fine tune it, but it seems like over-kill unless you plan on living in the 3500- 6000 r.p.m. range. It would probably get around 10 mpg cruising at 70 mph. My set-up gets 13-14 on the highway.
Good luck & stay safe,
Keith

I have another question...what would roughly be the biggest tire that would work on that 73 aluminum rim?

My dad asked if I was going to stick with the 73 rims...and if so...what size tires do I want him to buy.

Thanks Keith for the carb input and rarepony for the 73 rim pics. Those look freaking awesome. I told my dad if he came across a great deal on some magnums to go ahead and pick them up, but I am still keeping the 73 rims for sure.

Oh and my dad sold the gentleman that had my mach a 68 fastback body that was pretty bad for some money and asked if he would knock off another 500$ off the mach. So now I only owe my dad $2000, which my wife is going up to missouri to pay him this weekend. My dad said at worst I will have about 5500 to 6000 in the car and the only left it will need is a paint job. I am pretty excited. I told the wife to take a video of the car while its running and send it in an email so I can see/hear it. I will post it when she does! Thank you all for your help!!!

I'm pretty sure that the factory slots are 14x6 inch rims. The ideal height for a 73 Mustang is about 27 inches. If you stay close to this height the speedometer will be very close. As far as width a 7 inch is about the limit. A good example is a BF Goodrich 225/70/ 14. These tires are 27.4" in height and close to 7 " in width. You could go with a Hoosier quick time dot size, 275/50/14, they are just over 26" tall and 8.5" width. The hoosiers would look great, but they are nearly twice the price. The BF Goodrich T/As are a great all around tire, while the hoosiers are more of a softer compound high performance tire, they probably wouldn't have as good of tread life.
I hope this helps, stay safe
Keith
