Well, the term Boss came from a contemporary term expressing something that was the coolest / greatest.
Mach 1 - I should know but it won't come to me right now.

I read one place about the Mach 1 prototype, “The car was called the Mach 1 because it was still an era of the cold war when new fighter planes were touted on how fast they could go. “Mach 1” being roughly 750mph or the speed of sound.” The Mach 1 show car did debut in 1966.

The term Mach1 goes back to Ernst Mach a scientist born in Austria. Ernst Mach published the first pictures of the super sonic waves, (shock waves) created by a bullet traveling at super sonic speed, that create the crack we hear when something travels faster then 750 mph, or "breaks the sound barrier."
