Hi everyone, Last week I posted that my 72 Mach1 was almost ready to go. Since then I've run into a couple of issues. First, I need a new radiator, but can't afford much over $200. Second I need to find a header set that will fit my car. I ordered a new set of hooker headers (part # 6915) from Summit. They arrived but the headers are too small and don't match up to the big exhaust ports. When you compare them side by side with the old ones you can see the size difference. Any ideas about where I can get the parts I need will be welcomed.
Thanks, Keith
P.S. my car is a 72 Mach1, with 351cj, 4 spd., no A/C.

Well first off it sounds like you ordered headers for the 2 barrell heads and not for the 4 barrell heads. Yes there is a very big difference in size. Call where ever you ordered the headers from and explain that you have the 4 barrell heads and they should be willing to exchange them. Second look up
www.championcooling.com My pal Bob just purchased an aluminum radiator for his 73 AMC Javelin 4 spd. and the radiator was $236.15 shipped to his door.(and it was excellent quality) I couldn't believe it was that cheap. Till I saw the invoice. This should help you get your problems fixed. JTS 71 Mach1

hanks for the info,JTS71 Mach1! I called summit racing where I got the headers, they said that the 1.75" I.D. tubes are correct for 4v heads. They are Hooker comp. headers, they have some with 2" I.D. tubes in super comp. design. It's $300 more, but this isn't turning out to be a budget build so I might get them. I like the radiator link you listed looks good for an all aluminum rad.
Thanks again,
Keith

I'll second the Champion Cooling radiator. I used one in my son's 1971 Maverick and it was both less expensive than most and good quality.
Interesting that the header diameter is that much smaller.

The only thing I can imagine, is #1 somebody ported the heads? or #2 somebody has made a mistake and sent 2 barrell headers instead of 4 barrell??? Just because the box has the right numbers on it doesn't mean thats what is in the box. I can't remember the size of the tubes for the 4 barrell headers.
I had a set of Casler headers, which was a division of Hooker, that matched up perfectly. I just can't remember what size the tubes were.

after looking for headers that would fit, I read in my "Ford high performance parts identifier" that stock 351cj manifolds are considered factory "high flow maniflods". It so happens I found a set in excellant condition cheap, so I'm going that route. I finally decided on a "Silla" radiator, all aluminum, 3 core, lifetime warranty.
thanks to everyone who gave their input.

Radiator arrived yesterday looks great, only disappointment is that it's made in China. I always try to buy american but sometimes you either don't know or have no other reasonable option.
