The old man was high up at Ford, he says it's a very rare car and 700 of them were made? he is 80 something, he might be off his rocker.
He has the original paperwork for the car too.
336 some R codes were made in 1972. Still 700 some is low number. I am not sure what CJ production numbers are.
Yeah, I doubt that he is too far off his rocker.
Nice looking Bullit - hopefully you can have both.
I was wrong with 700, I just confirmed with him he said around 300. I haven't made it over there to check the vin.
This might actually be an R code car. NOW what is it worth as it sits? lol
EDIT: just ran over there because I was so dang curious. It is in fact an R code car, VIN starts with 2f05r. looked underneath looks to be no rust as well. all in all solid ass car.
What's an R code worth guys? 1 owner documented car. Bought directly from Ford.
"Worth" is what the highest bidder is willing to pay for it. I've seen a nice example (and I have high standards) sell for $28,000, but it was completely restored and had almost every option offered. The car was done correctly, and the owner documented every step of the restoration. I actually think he had more than that into it and lost money at that price, but needed quick cash. As discussed in earlier posts, restoring these cars is expensive. Do you know where the original intake is? Try finding one. Ask him where the original wheels went. Resto's with OEM or NOS parts will always demand higher prices. It would be awesome for you to be able to purchase this vehicle for a fair price and restore it correctly. What you purchase it for and what you invest from there are two different things. Figure on spending at least 10K on the car to get it to show quality - no exaggeration. Now add that to his asking price. I wish you the best, great find. Production numbers for R-code '72's are as follows: 19 hardtops, 366 sportsroofs, and 13 convertibles. Total = 398 cars.

So you are one lucky man!
The history that comes with the car will add to the value of the car. I have PM'd you with some ways to check on value. See what you come up with.
GXR is not exaggerating on his 10K estimate for bringing it back to mint and I think that estimate is doing most of the work yourself and only if yourself is capable of professional results. Otherwise add another 7 to 10K to that to have it restored to mint. It would be one of the few 71-73 Mustangs that you would be able to turn a profit on but it will take a lot of investment.

Great find - a car of my dreams.
I was thinking more like 15k to get it where it needs to be.
most of the work myself. only thing I would sub out is the paint.
This car looks very solid, if it is rust free then it's got some good value as is. The wheels look like after-market, and the shock tower to firewall supports appear to be missing. If you do buy it be sure to order a Marti report, it tell you exactly how rare the car is.
