Need help identifying under hood wiring
#1
Hi Folks,
I have a 73 Mach 1 351C 2v / FMX / P/S / A-Con - removed.
On the fire wall on the driver's side[LHD] there is a series of wiring plugs - most of which aren't hooked to anything.
I've looked at wiring diagrams - but, I can't work them out.

I'll discribe as best I can - 3 x seperate plugs I can't work out.

1] 3 x pin plug - 2 male & 1 female fittings:
1 black wire with red broken stripe = not connected
1 black wire with green broken stripe = not connected
1 white wire with thin black stripe = not connected

2] 4 x pin plug - 3 male & 1 female fittings:
1 red wire with white stripe = temperature gauge
1 white wire with red stripe = oil pressure gauge
1 red wire with white stripe = + side of coil
2 red wires with yellow broken stripes = not connected

3] 1 x pin plug:
1 brown wire with yellow broken stripe = not connected

Some of these colours maybe faded - most them appear black after being wrapped in insulation for decades.
I know about the temp gauge and oil pressure gauge. The tacho won't work after fitting a HEI distributor.

The one I'm really chasing is the wire which powers the a/compressor. I'll be refitting the a/c as soon as I clean up the engine bay.
The rest of the wires don't seem to do anything, except to lie on the inlet manifold.

I'd love to know what they all do, or supposed to do. Everything electrical worked on the car before I pulled the motor - except for the amp guage.

I look forward to your replies.

thanks,
Rod A

Hey Guys,
If no one kows the answer - does anyone have a link to a colored wiring diagram?
The only one I have is in black and white, and it doesn't have the a/compressor in the diagram.

thanks,

Thanks 68,
The only wire I'm trying to identify is the air conditior wire.
Most of the others maybe electric anti-smog gear and electric choke? Every piece of smog was removed from the car before I bought it.

Apart from the amp gauge, everything else on the car worked.

thanks,

Rod A

are the 3 and 4 wire plugs flat or square?

Don,
The plugs are flat.
The square ones are connected to the FMX auto box, and everything worked as it should

This is what I'm referring to - are any of these supposed to activate the a/c?

thanks.

Hi Rod I had a quick look tonight. The a/c wire goes to a plug that is oblong (cylinder shaped) that has 3 wires. The a/c wire goes to the middle position and the other two on mine aren't being used at the moment, I think they might have been cut off . I will have a better look over the weekend the other side of the plug/socket goes into a big wiring loom so I won't be able to trace it any further than that. I think the harness goes through the firewall down below and to the right of the brake booster setup.

OK - I'm not going to replace the disconnected wiring, with the exception of the temp and oil pressure gauges.

While none of the wiring diagrams I've googled shows the anti smog gear, I've confident they're for the ERG [what ever that is] and the electric choke.

The a/c wire still has me beat - But, once I've got the motor back from the shop, I'll use the old trial and error method.

thanks.
