Well the story ive been told was my dad bought the car from someone when he was in his 20's, then he sold it to his dad becuase he wanted to get a torino. Once my grandpa owned the car it just sat outside uncovered. my grandpa was also part of the local mustang club i was told. he also had a 67-69 converable that my uncle owns now.
Yah it has a 3 speed, but my dads friend has a 4 speed that would fit. but i think im just going to keep the 3 speed. today im going to go over there and pull the carb and get numbers off it. im guessing its going to need to be rebuilt.

Yeah with the quality of gas these days it can turn to varnish in as little as 6-8 weeks. I have seen most vehicle sit 5 or 6 months and get lucky. It all depends on the gas, and exposure to the air, as to how fast it will deteriorate. Thats why you shouldn't leave them set with out stabil. As it can cause a real pain in the azz. So yeah a rebuild would be a good place to start. Go to a real parts store, (if you have any left around) to hopefully get a good quality kit. And have at it. there should be complete instructions and measuring guages for the float levels etc. Take your time and all should come out great. JTS 71 Mach1

So I picked up a battery and wanted to see if the car would start. I go to turn the key and I get nothing. Is there a main line fuse? Anything else I could check for? No lights, or anything? I don't know where to start.

After setting that long I would check the battery cables to make sure they are making good contact at the other end. A little cleaning and a tight connection may be all you need.

The interior cleaned up real nice.
Check the connections at the starter solonoid and clean them. Also check the ground cable (same size as battery cable) that runs from the starter solonoid to the engine block. I had a bad connection once at the engine block and had no power. I cleaned up the connection and it worked fine.

It may seem as you have just another Mach1. Until you realize. THEY DON"T MAKE THEM ANYMORE! Now that makes your car more significant. Believe me you have a very solid car to start with compared to most, and it doesn't appear to have been beat all to hell, as most were. So take pride in what you have. Sometimes all the bells and whistle aren't what they're cracked up to be. JTS 71 Mach1

Looks identical to ours except for color and power steering (wish I had that). The 351-2V w.3spd was the base Mach 1 but few were ordered that way so it is somewhat rare. Only 4% 0f the 69 fastbacks had that engine/transmission combination. See my thread http://mach1club.com/showthread.php?tid=4232
