My dad's 69 Mach 1 After 30 years
#11
Black Jade 69 is right, Aztec Aqua is a seldom seen color on ANY '69 mustang. 2,029 fastbacks (including mach-1's) were that color. All body styles combined total of 7,304. 2,029 cars seems like a lot, but not when you figure that there were around 130,000 fastbacks built that year. Looks like you have a decent car to restore. Good luck, best regards, GXR

Sorry to hear about the lose of your dad. I know you are probably going through a tough time now.

That's really cool your dad had it for 30 years and you plan on keeping it stock as you said in your first post. I'm glad your hanging onto it.

If your not sure the engine needs a rebuild, I think I would do as some of the others recommended and just clean it up and maybe try to get it running. Go through the brakes, change fluids, coolant, etc. You may need to replace the fuel tank and flush the lines. I tried to keep my 73 convertible on the road while I was slowly working on the restoration; it really kept my interest up to be able to drive it on occasion.

Probably be a good idea to find a local Mustang club too and you could get some good advise from some local enthusiast that may give you a hand with it. I may have missed it, but where are you located?

My dad actually passed away 2 days ago. hes been sick for a while. I already started restoring his 74 h1 500, that had tags on it since 83, lol. But i think for now im gonna pull the motor on it and take that to the machine shop. im sure that will take a couple weeks so it will give me some time.

Id need to know a lot about the car to be real sure on value. Rust etc...
Id say at the very least this car is worth right now as it sits about 12-15k

The value once fully restored could be 60-75k or there about's, maybe more depending on the Marti Report and any unique features. The 4 speed makes it sought after right off the bat! To achieve high value after restore is going to be dependent on the quality of the restoration!!

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Don't be in any hurry Mike, your Dad sat on it for 30 years, there's no rush to do anything to it right this second.
I completely agree with Steven, Id clean this car from top to bottom as if it ran perfectly. See what you have from there. Part of keeping a classic anyway is keeping it spotless.

Im out of seattle/puyallup. I'll have to look into the local mustang clubs. I dont know if the aqua is the stock color or not. i just ordered the standard marti report. So we'll see when it comes back. I like your idea steven, just clean and drive. that way i can still enjoy the car while i think of what to do with it. I took about 2 hours cleaning the inside and it came out pretty good. This weekend im going to take a look at the engine. i know it needs a new gas tank, and prob all new fuilds. Also im sure a carb rebuild kit wouldn't be a bad idea. Any idea what carb this engine would have? Heres some pics of the inside after cleaning it.

LOOKIN GOOD!!! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE OUTSIDE AFTER A GOOD WASH. YOUR CAR WOULD HAVE HAD A MOTORCRAFT 4300 FOUR BARREL ON IT IF YOUR ENGINE CODE IS "M". AND IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY THE 2 BARREL MOTORCRAFT CAME ON THE "H" CODE ENGINE. CHECK THE 5TH DIGIT OF YOUR V.I.N. IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH THERE WILL BE A TAG SCREWED ON THE TOP OF THE CARBURETOR WHICH MAKES IT ALOT EASIER TO GET PARTS FOR IT.

Looking good Mike keep it up! Its amazing just how good of shape the interiors in for its age. I'm amazed the speaker in the dash looks in perfect condition. Usually that area of the dash is the first to deteriorate.
I sure hope your getting how lucky you are!!!! Id give my left nut for one like this! Cry_ It looks to have never been touched since factory.

yah its crazy how much ive been learning about mustangs. I knew nothing about muscle cars before getting this car a couple weeks ago. i have a 06 cbr 1000rr and a 528i that ive always worked on, but this is a whole new world lol. looking at the tag number it has a H, will that mean better gas mileage? ill be back over tonight to work on the car today so i'll take some more pics of the out side cleaned up

Gas mileage? Bro don't worry about gas mileage this probably wont be your daily driver. When you get this thing running and drive it down the road you'll see what all the fuss is about. You'll be so busy waving at the people giving you a thumbs up and trying to get out of parking lots from people wanting to talk to you about the car and offering to buy it from you, you'll forget all about the gas mileage.

My first Mustang was a 1970 Mustang Grande when I was about 17 years old. It had the 351 Cleveland in it. My Dad bought it for me for 2000 bucks. Since that day and with me being 50 now, Ive been hooked to Mustangs ever since, Ive had about 8 over the years.

Your learning why people are a little nutty over the Mustang and why it is one of the most successful cars ever produced. Awes

You have a great car to work with. Did your dad buy it new? Does it have a 3 or 4 speed transmission? Our 69 is the H code engine with a 3spd. Yours is in a lot better condition then our's was when we started the restoration. Working on it is half the fun.

Shift knob says 3-spd. Shifter itself looks like a factory 3-spd unit.
