I really wanted to do a 302 conversion from the get go but was "forced" into a head rebuild that cost almost as much as the original purchase price so I went with the original six.
I am still very tempted to pull the six and put in the 302 with a Ranger (brand) overdrive.
Yeah I think a 302 would be much more driveable. Torque won't be quite as good but that Jeep should be geared low enough not to make much difference.
I had an 87 F150 with the 302 and now have a 94 F150 with the 300 six and it will outpull the 302 all day long. No contest. Just a little food for thought. Not sure how big the Jeep six is, 258 comes to mind as a popular AMC six. Is your truck from the AMC years??? JTS 71 Mach1
The Toyota Land Cruiser has the in line six, the blocked gas tank and the broken fuel pump arm and is one excuse away from the 302 transplant. I am currently rebuilding the carburetor. Last chance ..
The Jeep has the AMC 360. I started it up without a water pump and fed gas into the carburetor bowl. It sounded good. I rebuilt the wiring harness, rebuilt the carburetor and have a new water pump to install on my next visit to the U.S. I hope to keep the 360 BUT a very nice 72 F-150 4X4 has come available ..
I keep telling myself that I am done - no more vehicles ..
Thankfully I don't have unlimited space or else I would be in trouble. The F-150 hasn't happened and I don't have anything else in the wings.
Well, come to think of it I have always like the Australian GT and your picture has me thinking .. I know where a late 60's Falcon is sitting - a two door tribute to an Australian GT ...
Funny you should mention the 2 door Falcon. It was never made (maybe an in house concept only) because Ford saw no market for a 2 door version. That left the field open for the Holden Monaro - as history showed a very popular vehicle with no competition.
This concept appeared in a magazine some time back.
Well I was pretty sure, but I clicked on 1968 Ford Falcon Futura. Which I believe is the car you all have in Australia, and it definitely comes in 2 door, as well as 4 door. So that concept was probably a photo shopped version, or maybe an American car to begin with??? The 2 door version you posted looks almost exactly like the pictures of the Falcon Futura, you can tell they have totally different grille and tail lights, but otherwise the bodies look identical. The Futura was kind of an odd duck over here. The Fairlanes, Torinos, Mavericks, and Mustangs, stole the show so to speak. JTS 71 Mach1
AFAIK the Futura in Australia was never available as a 2 door in the body style in the concept I posted. That was known as the XY or XW shape and I have never seen a two door.
If you have a 2 door in the USA that shape it never made it over here.
There would be a retro market here, as there is for a Mustang.
The post from me is only a concept from a magazine and does not exist as a vehicle.
Ford never thought a 2 door would have a market out here.
Here's some pictures of the real things. As you can see they have been improved upon as when they came out of the "Factory" they were much plainer and more "vanilla" cars. They just weren't very cool. Compared to the Mach1's etc. JTS 71 Mach1
