New Member, grabber blue!

Okay, I don't have a Mach 1 at the moment, but I have a history with them. My grandfather traded in an orange 65 conv. in 1970 for a Grabber Blue Mach 1 that was sitting in the showroom at White Plains Ford in NY. It was pretty basic with 351C 2bbl, and power steering, brakes. I rode in it the day he brought it home and alot over the years he had it. It never really ran right, stalled at every rain, and the heater box basically fell on his foot when he was driving it home from the dealer as well. It wasn't good in snow and i remember the snow tires with snow chains (eek!) on the back. After a few years and 5 carbs later, he brought it to a local gas station to get it fixed. During the night it was stolen after they broke into the station and found the keys. It was recovered weeks later, bent rear bumper, tear in center console, empty beer cans inside. So it was shortly traded in 1976 for a Cordoba without corinthian leather! I bought a 1969 Mach 1 in the late 80's, Meadowlark Yellow 390 C6. Like most NY cars it had no floors or torque boxes, I did the best resto I could at the time, Maaco, but did have the underneath professionally done. That was sold and I am Machless, although I have an eye on a Grabber Blue Mach for sale on the net.New

Welcome,

Here's hoping you are soon reunited with a Mach 1 and that it is a much happier experience than that of your grandfather.

Glad to have you with us.

I know i'll have a better time than my grandfather did, honestly he wanted a Boss 302 but there was a 6 month waiting if you ordered one, so he was impatient and bought the Mach instead. I still loved it more than a Boss or anything else, it was a big part of my childhood memories. My father who had a 68 Tempest in 1970 would borrow it from time to time. I was picked up in kindergarten in it, my father "got on it" with my friend riding in it after a sleepover, fun! The smell of Sunoco 260 with lead, yummy! And as you know the interior of a Mach has it's own aroma, and that color at night under neon lights has that purple glow. I have a fully restored 1971 340 Duster, but still long for a Mach.

Although we are very partial to Mach 1's, your welcome to share pictures of your Duster. We can appreciate em all.

We'll try to behave ourselves. Naughty
