Reasonable price to reupholster my seats
#1
Okay. So I bought the seat covers, front seat foam, batting, burlap base, and the hog rings with the tools. After wasting a half of bag of hog rings, I'm wondering what would be a fair price to have someone that knows what they are doing recover my seats (Mach 1, Sport Seats by TMI from NPD). I have the seats out and ready to go. I'm in Michigan so the Tijuana Special isn't what I'm looking for. I'm also not looking for the Royal Vaseline Treatment, either. Does anybody know someone that is good...and fair?

Thanks. Dew

Don't give up so easy, this is not hard to do, and hog rings are cheap.

Yeah, but my sanity isn't. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to attach the hog rings through the foam backing. I've tried going from under the spring into the foam, from over the rod only to miss the seat spring, and have even used uphostry thread to 'sew' the spring tight to the foam and still can't marry up the spring and rod. With this much frustration at the beginning, I anticipate that things would only get worse, from there. Besides, I only have four weeks left before the car show season starts. <smile>

Did you get your car repainted this spring? Did you go back with the same color? Looking at your previous post and pictures, the car all ready looked great in the pictures!

If the upholstery work is something that you feel is a bit beyond your sanity (fair enough) then I guess the option is to take it to a local shop. How much is fair? - boy, I don't know but it should not be much as you all ready have the supplies and everything ready. Maybe around a Benjamin.

Try to get some word of mouth recommendations and get a look at some of the work the shop has done. Otherwise you might just loose your sanity and pay to loose it. Sad Duh

Let us know how it goes for you so we can help advise the next guy down the line.

Yes, I'm getting the car a fresh, crisp, paint job. Thanks for the comments on the 'before' pictures... the 'after' pictures should be awesome. You can see the progress at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rushmore-B...8279580123
and yes, I'm keeping the same color, I found out that it's one of the more rare colors. As for the seats, I could deal with a Benjamin, but not a whole family of them. I'll make some calls. When it's all said and done, I'll be posting some updated pictures (with the blue halo headlights and all). Stay tuned....

Thanks again.

Dew - you've got a nice car!

I like the color. After my medium yellow your car's green would be the one I would go for. Looking forward to seeing the end results.

A friend of mine just got a quote to have a 1967 fastback upholstery done by a local shop. He bought all the stuff himself and they quoted him $3,000. This is a small town with little competition, but that is a lot.

It will depend on your area but to install new foam and upholstery figure
300.00 - 400.00 labor. It is as least a 1/2 day job

Listen I've done a lot of upholstery work for myself and other people and believe me it's not that hard. Remember heat is your friend and just take your time. There are a lot of step by step instructions in publications like Mustang Monthly. I hope you bought the good quality foam, It can make a big difference.

I've just had the base part of two seats re-covered in leather. (On one of my BMWs). It cost $300 for the hide and $300 labour. The labour charge would have been the same even if I had used cheap materials. I decided to run with the better hide. I was impressed by the job and have now got the same guy to do another seat (complete) in another of my cars. I am guessing that this latest job will be about the $450-500 mark.
