I am new to the forum and new to Mach 1 ownership. My son, JAS 280z, has had a few posts about the car that we bought and was just delivered from Scottsdale after a nearly six week wait. Anyway, I noticed this then and haven't cleared it in my mind yet so I need to ask the veterans. There is no torsion bar between the hinges for the trunk lid. Is that normal?
It is a 1970 with a spoiler. The best I can tell from some of the popular suppliers is that a rod exists or can be bought to keep the trunk lid open. Does that mean that it didn't come with a torsion bar because of the spoiler? Your assistance is appreciated.

Welcome to the site. Just wanted to let you know that's a sharp looking 70 Mach 1.
I'm not sure about the 70, but someone should be along with an answer for you.

Yes they all had 2 torsion bars for the trunk lid there are different holes/slots to adjust the tension to compensate for the spoiler. Ask don from ohio mustang or find a mustang in an old salvage yard. If all else fails I have some, but they'd be a pain to ship. JTS 71 Mach1

Hi
65-70 coupes and convertibles had torsion rods
67 -68 and 69 -70 fastback had springs on the hinges
New 69 - 70 hinge assemblies are 133.00 pair
69-70 spoiler equipped fastbacks had a prop rod
New repro prop rods are only about 20.00 BUT the last 2-3 batches have bad plastic clips, they break on install.
Until Scott Drake resolves the issue, I stopped selling them.
All 71-3's had torsion rods
Fastbacks had 2
Coupes and convertibles had 1

Ohio Mustang is right
I bought one of those cheap piece of crap prop rods from the mustang place here in Colorado........and like "Ohio Mustang" stated...The thing broke on install next to the clip.
I then purchased a new set of hinges that have the springs on them. I installed them and I no longer need the stupid prop rod because the springs are tight and powerful.
I have a wing and its holding the weight just great.
Dont waste the money on a prop rod just yet.

To Ohio Mustang, I looked on your website but couldn't find the hinges anywhere. I just got the car and haven't had much time to familiarize myself with it. From what I could tell the trunk lid had circular style hinges/springs that must have tension in them when new. They don't look that way now. Anyway, if you could send me a link to the product I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Sorry for the misinformation I didn't catch the 1970. But I did go out to my 72 and look so I knew there were 2 torsion rods on mine. Sorry I didn't know. JTS 71 Mach1
