73 rear window seal
#1
I pulled the rear windshield off of my 73 mach 1, so I could repair some rust in the upper corners and paint that area of the car. I noticed a couple of notches along the bottom edge of the opening, and also in the corners. I have had leakes in the corners before so I stuck in some two-part epoxy putty in that area. no way they will leak now.
As far as the other two notches, why did ford put those there? should I seal those holes up with something (rtv or epoxy) or just leave it?

I am not sure which notches you are referring to. Here is a picture of my rear window channel when I installed my new weatherstrip.

Yeah, I am not sure what those notches are for. I looked at my pictures again but I don't know. I don't have my car here to go look at it again to see if I can figure it out. If you figure it out let us in on what you find out.

Been a while since I've been on line. Never did find out what the notches were for. I took the car in recently to Apex Auto glass here and ha them install a new front windsheild and re-install the rear window. The front windshield turned out good, but they did a weak job on the rear. must not know about classic fords. The put on the new gasket that I provided and the original rear glass bt did not install any of the sealand in and around the gasket. Which is okay because I noticed an area where the gasket did not sit straight (kind of tilted inward toward the opening). under that spot I know there is a seem that had bulged with rust. This weekend I plan on removing the glass myself and addressing that seem. Probably will take it to one of the older shops in town and cover the installation with them prior to turning it over.
On a humorous note, I now know that without sealant in and around that gasket, your window will leak if you wash your window with a squeegee.
Also note that is there is any body work done in the window cavity that it is a good idea to try your window moldings to make sure the body lines are straight and do not interfere ( where I used the 2 part epoxy). Yep a little sanding is in order now.

Thanks for the update.

Update us again when you get the rear window fixed proper.

The two notches are possible drain channels

Ford used a foam tape on the body before the rubber gasket went down
It conforms and seals the body to the hard rubber
