72' Mach 1 351 Cleveland Project
#1
Hello,

Although I am a member of various message boards, this is my first post on mach1club.

I have had a 72' Mach 1 project car for the past 8 years or so and am finally getting around to restoring the car. To date, I have disassembled the car and have completely rebuilt the engine. I purchased my car when I was in high school and had good intentions. Obviously restoring cars is not the cheapest hobby so after the engine was rebuilt I was stuck.

Now that its a few years later I am ready to move on.

All in all the car is in OK shape. I do have the rusted cowl issue that most of the 71-73 Mach's had, as well as some other minor rust and body work issues. I do not foresee any major issues.

I do want to do a frame up restoration back to its original setup. I am not looking to modify the car in any way.

Basically the point of this post is to see where you all purchase parts from, and to see if any of you know where you can purchase those hard to find parts like the seat rail tracks.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I will obviously post more specific topics when the time comes. But for now, this is the start.

Thanks,

Mateya

Welcome to the site from Virginia. I bought most of the parts for my 73 Convertible from CJ Pony Parts and Ohio Mustang. You will find some used parts listed here on this site from time-to-time also. Keep us posted on your restoration. Feel free to ask any questions; usually lot of good responses here.

SSig_welcome4 I still crawl through the salvage yards. there are still a few mustang laying around. Then I usually look on Ebay, I've gotten several things for my 72 off of Ebay now. Some new and some used. So it's kind of up to you. The catalog companies have alot of the little items, as well as the big stuff. But the prices can be pretty stiff. I like to shop all choices to get the best deal I can. JTS 71 Mach1

Welcome Mateya,

Glad to have you here with us.

It looks as though you have been given some good direction as to parts location. I keep my eyes open at all time for parts locally or wherever I may roam. Don from Ohio Mustang has always been a very helpful contact.

So - looking forward to seeing more of your Mach 1 and hearing more of your story.

Enjoy the ride.

And to other new guys who may read this..learn from his mistake,,Do the body first...the drive train is the last thing you will need. All of the drive train parts will long be out of warranty before the body is finished. And, yes..I did it too on my 1st restore.
