Well this sucks, the guy I was going to buy the car from just e-mailed me and told me he sold the car on me. I thought we had a deal, so much for peoples word. I guess I will still be on the outside looking in.

Bummed,

Jim

Man Jim,

I'm bummed with you!

Okay, so if he was no good to his word on this who knows what else was not the truth about the car. Not that a 1970 Mach 1 can be found on every corner though.

All the best in your continued search.

If there is a good way to look at this, it would be that I have really always wanted a Calypso Coral 70 Mach. Although I was really starting to dig on the blue. The search is on.

Hello all,

Thanks for the your thoughts on me getting hosed buy my potential purchase. So.... the hunt continues.

I've been watching this one for a while.
http://www.justmusclecars.com/carindex.a...20Mach%20I
I'm not sure if the link will work since I've never done one before.
Well the first thing you will notice is it isn't calypso coral. Well, the Mach! I had back in CA was green and I dug it.

Things I like:
- Windsor instead of Cleveland motor
- No rear spoiler wing No slats either.
- It has the stock rear sway bar.
- Magnums

Bummer things:
- It’s an automatic (But the build sheet shows it’s originally a 4spd.)
- It’s a dealer so I will have to pay all of the taxes. I assume he can’t fudge sale price.
- No fold down rear set option.
- It's in Florida, I'm in NY.

I talked with the guy and he sent me a bunch of pictures of the underneath and it is very clean. No real issues. So I was wondering if you had a moment to look at the pictures and let me know what you think. Or if any of you live near there know anything about this dealer. He's asking 23,900 but says he has room to negotiate.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Jim,

Something similar happened to me awhile ago. I have found that the excitement of a search for the next one is one of the best times there is. I then decided that the man above must have had other plans for me when my 1st didn't work out.

Best of luck to you in your continued search. Do keep us posted.

Jim,

That looks like a very nice car. I had a 1970 GT Torino in that dark green and I would take another one!

Odd that the standard transmission has made it's way to an automatic but if such is the case then you can have your standard and return it to original.

The car appears to be real clean and in my personal opinion, a clean car is always worth the drive. Imagine the fun it would be to drive the car back to New York!

Negotiate the sales price to reflect having to pay tax and fly down to drive it home and pat yourself on the back for a good deal made. Biggrin

Steven, I was thinking the same thing about the transmission. The guy I talked to said that the owner during the 70’s was a fireman. He got injured and couldn’t do the clutch anymore and had it changed to an Automatic. And like you wrote, I can switch it back and it would be what I wanted and original. I’ve converted an auto to a 4spd once before. I fell on a close ratio small block top loader at a swap meet. Very desirable among the Boss 302 crowd. I ended up buying the guys car (67 FB 390) from him too. But that’s part of chapter two.

Man, that would be one heck of a road test driving back to NY. Especially in the potential weather this time of year. We got three inches of snow the other night.

Thanks for your thoughts,
Jim
