Hey, new member here. 1970 Mach 1, 351C 2v, red with black stripes. Bought it in 1984 when I was 14. Dad let us buy any car as long as we had to restore it. Just getting the old girl back out of the barn (literally) and working to get her going even better than before. Looking forward to some good advice from the folks here. Glad I found the site.

Attempting to post a pic of washing the dust off the old girl.

Welcome to the site! Glad you found us too! Slowly but surely we hope to have every Mach 1 owner on the planet here. Well at least the ones that know how to use the internet!
Surprising I talk to Mach 1 owners I meet at car shows and tell then about us and they say they never use the internet. Amazing!

Show us some pictures of your Mach 1!

Thanks for the replies. It looked ok after the bath. Paint doesn't look too worse for the wear. Engine runs as good as it did. Interior had some issues with mice even though we had poison packs in and around it, but it needed work in there anyway. Brakes and suspension are the first order of business. Then I need to decide whether to go back to the original 2bbl manifold (which I have) and find a carb for it or find 4v heads for it. It's had 4bbl Holley carb and intake with 2v heads on it since I bought it all those years ago.

Of course it all depends on what you are trying to do with the car. My .02 on the matter is keep what you have. That's a good street-able combination and the least expense.

On the other hand - if you decide to go with either other option and want to sell the current combo, let me know. I am in the market for such a combo. I have an extra 2V carb but it is from a 71.

Steven- Thanks for your $0.02. I guess my thought is to try to get the most consistent running setup. This engine has always had a "lag" when you press on the pedal accelerating from idle. I've always attributed that to the shelf that is formed by the head ports not lining up with the manifold ports and too much fuel mixture hanging up there. Someone who hasn't driven it before is likely to flood it and kill it if they don't baby it through the lag stage. Once it gets past that point the engine really roars. I'm just trying to find the most consistent performance and logic was telling me that 2v heads and a 2v manifold or 4v heads and a 4v manifold would give that. But, I'm a long way from an engine guy and probably know just enough to be dangerous. Not even sure is my theory on the lag is correct. -Brent

Id say keep it original, or at the very least be sure that it easily and simply can be returned to original. You guys with the 69-70 Mach 1's really have great value of the Mach1's as far as value goes, but in the auctions I see on TV bidders love the originality of the car or, they want it to be over the top restomod. Id say make it yours but keep all parts to keep it original.
