Well, I finally finished the Mach 1 Took it out to see if everything work properly and the trans won't shift at all... I need some suggestions guys, its a FMX, short of that I know nothing about the trans it came with the car. it pulls good no slipping, rev works good although it goes in gear hard (both forward and rev). I don't know if the modulator valve is bad or if the kickdown linkage is not working????? Please tell me your thoughts...

Do you have vacuum to modulator? And maybe it is bad from sitting(the modulator valve) just a couple of thoughts. Goes into gear hard?

Trannys are not my forte. Hoping for an answer so that I can learn as well.

Could possibly be a faulty modulator, but even if the modulator is n.g., the tranny should still shft up by throttle pressure (ie governor). First thing I would check is fluid pressure to determine if the front pump is O.K. I'm assuming you already checked the fluid level. Keep us posted.

Found the Problem! The filter was yuckkkkkkk... That thing had more junk in the pan than any thing I have ever seen. That stuff looked like hair with mud in it..I cleaned everything and back flushed the trans with the pan off,put in a new filter and presto chango it works. I did how ever find a couple of pinholes in the pan so while it was off I welded them shut. I drove it and it shifted at around 25-30mph in to 2nd and then to 3rd around 40, I'd say after it gets driven for awhile everything should loosen up. This trans has not been in service for about 26 years, I'll keep everyone up on how it does. Oh and the whining I heard after it warmed up is gone as well.

Replace the modulator valve 1st if that don't fix it, pull the tail shaft housing off, remove the 4 bolts holding the governor slide it off the tail shaft, check to see that the steel valve is not stuck inside the aluminum housing. you can take the valves out and clean them up with fine emery cloth. Hopefully that will fix your problem.

Tranny is working better I called the guy I bought the car from he informed me that the car originally belonged to a friend and that back in the early '80's they had put a shift kit in the trans, been shifting hard and firm ever since. I asked him about the shift points he said into 2nd around 30 and 3rd around 45 or so, and thats what it's doing now aswell.
Thanks for all your help and insight guys.
