I need motivation
#1
I figured what better place to get some motivation to get me started up again on my project 1970. I have a thread on it here: http://mach1club.com/showthread.php?tid=1195
I was going along great, and just ran out of steam. I have the rebuilt engine on a stand for running and breaking in the cam...if I put myself to it, I could start it in a few days...it's been sitting for over a year. I actually showed the car to someone interested in buying it, but I know I shouldn't sell it; I've had it for 32 years. In my home shop I have everything needed to do full restorations, and I am so fortunate over the years to have learned and worked in every facet required, from engine machining/drivetrain building to body and paint. Maybe I'm burned out from doing it all these years.

Someone, please kick me in the a$$, and get me going... Biggrin

Well all I can say is don't sell it. Even if you don't feel like working on it at the moment, you know how hard it will be to find another one in the condition yours is in?

If your in need of the money that's a whole new story. If you don't need the money then hang onto it, or sell it to me cheap! Eusa_dance

You have all that knowledge and capability to finish a project you know people would die to have and your lolly gagging?
You are days from having it running? Whats your problem fire up that beast that will get your blood flowing a little more.

Also don't feel pressure to make it concours, make it something you can enjoy. Since you have the knowledge you do maybe trade some of the stuff out that you can do for someone that can help you with your project. Sometimes everything a project needs can be overwhelming. Sort of how I felt with my 72 Mach. I was the second owner. It needed everything, although it still ran pretty good and was a usable car for weekend fun, it always got over looked at shows because it needed so much. You know what? I kick myself in the ass every single day since I sold it!!!! Don't feel like I do, its like your girlfriend you love so much left and you'll never get her back ever, NEVER!

I love my 2010 GT, it is very nice and comfortable, but it lacks every bit the nostalgic feel you get when your in the old ones. In my 2010 I rarely get a thumbs up. In my 72 every time I drove it I got a thumbs up at least once from some passer by. I couldn't go to Autozone without spending 30-45 minutes in the parking lot talking to someone about the Mach 1. In the 2010 not one person really wants to talk about it at Autozone.

In Arizona we are gearing up for our season to have fun with our cars. We have been hiding inside with the air conditioning for the past 5 months, August was the hottest month in Arizona history! 20 days of 110 degrees or something like that.

I cant wait for the fall! Our car clubs are making a 200 mile trek this Friday for the Flagstaff Route 66 car Show, temps will be in the 80's in the day and 60's at night. To give a contrast it was 106 still last night at 9pm in Phoenix! Cry

Ive been looking for a 69-70, they are either complete pieces of crap, or to expensive, makes me wonder if Ill ever have a 69-70. I probably could if I sold one of my houses, but I like the getaway to much to lose that.

I don't know if Ive gotten you motivated, but if nothing else maybe Ive convinced you at least not to sell it. You will be very sorry if you sell it! Notallthere

Alright Twotime - Consider your backside kicked and now get at it.

I want you out in that garage pronto buster and you better not sit back in that chair to watch any game until I hear the sound of that motor.

Do you hear me mister?

No, really I think that if you take the time to get the motor fired up that it will pump enough adrenalin through your veins to get you back at it. Of course we do not know the specifics of your life but we (I will take the liberty to speak for Mach 1 club) would hate to see you sell it. No doubt it would be a decision deeply regretted.

Okay, repeat after me, "I will fire up the new motor, I will get the Mach 1 back together, I will enjoy driving this car!"

I took another look at the other thread on your engine rebuild and it looks great. You have had the car since you were 19 so that is almost your whole adult life. Similar story to mine, I bought my 73 convertible when I was 20. After being in storage for many years i got it back on the road and running when I was 52. I slowly worked on it mechanically at first and after driving around a few years I started on the body work. Now at 57 it runs great and has a beautiful paint job. Next on my list is the engine compartment and undercarriage.

Anyway, I came close to selling mine several times over the years, but hung onto it. Now, after owning for almost 38 years I can't see letting it go. I still get a smile when I look at it, even before it was painted. So give up any thought of selling it and get on the stick!

Im with the rest dont sell it unless money is an issue.Think about the feeling it will give you with heads turning as you cruisse it down Broadway.Thats the cruising spot here and Im sure you have one where you live.Get to plugging away.I too loose interest it mine and then see all the ones here done and get some more ambition. So good luck and lets see it done.

I have recently joined here, also looking for motivation and input.i just want to drive the car but it needs going thru and it is overwhelming,i have some $ but the kids are taking up much time,so is the up coming deer season.scouts guitar, baseball, work on a farm where my girl has 2 ponies.i recall having to go racing on circle track because that 73 had me close to losing my license.i got tired of building the racer but just kept saying to myself power out get it done.you now you want it.maybe get someone else involved to help.i hate being in the shop alone all the time.a fridge full of beer remedies that.
