Cleaning Windows
#11
Hi all I'm new to this site and my first post. For me I get a product called Sprayway item 1005412 at any Ace Hardware. Windows need to be cool and during a sunny day in the shade. It may take a couple of tries.I start with two sets of bounty paper towels. I spray the hole glass and clean all the glass if it dries spray on more cleaner. After going over it with by now wet towels use a clean set three or four towels to dry. This is what I use inside on my 73 and the flatter the glass the harder it is to clean and keep clean. Lots of people have favorite cleaners and some times technique is more important than product. Outside its BON AMI Ace item 10035 it removes water marks that get on glass but be ready to flush it away with plenty of water or you will see puddles of white usually after it dries. If you could tell I own a Ace Hardware and use lots of products I keep in stock. Good Luck

Thanks for starting the the thread M1G,

Here are a some more methods:

1. For routine cleaning: a professional detailer's squeegee blade and your favorite cleaner

2. For removing paint, glues, particles: razor blade - scrape non-tinted side (exterior) of window at a low angle and it will not scratch, fine steel-wool also works well and does not scratch

3. For interior window surfaces: a dry microfiber cloth easily removes grime and oils that build-up

Best way to clean windows without streaks.

Use cleaner with no ammonia. Best to use alcohol based cleaner like Invisible Glass.

Use clean microfiber. You might be getting streaks because your microfiber was washed with fabric softener and dried with a dryer sheet. Both no no's and both will leave residue.

Can't get windshield clean? Clay bar the windshield just like you would paint. Gets glass super clean.

Clean windows in shade.

Last step is to buff the glass with dry, wadded up newspaper. This is the critical step that removes any last trace of residue.

I do both my 89 and 03 using the steps above. Just the other day the UPS guy asked me how I get my glass so clean.

Good Luck

I'm a Maguires user - no problems PROVIDED you use a CLEAN towel/cloth all the time - keep turning it as you use it.
A friend of mine is a picture framer and has to get galss clean prior to assembly. He calls Windex 'Smearex' - what does that tell you?
I wash my shop towels and micro-fiber cloths regularly and only air dry them.

I did auto detailing for years and I can tell you that no matter what I tried I failed to meet my own standards when it came to glass. I've found the best results was to wash them thoroughly with Windex then after they are dry I'd wipe them with a clean dry paper towel. It's not perfect but it's the best I could get them.

When you have a car that nice you can have a few streaks in your windows. Thank you for the tips and welcome to the site!

A single edge razor blade can be of great help. Use with Windex and heaps of clean cloths first. Follow up with Maguires and more clean cloths. Wash and reuse.

My wife uses a micro fiber cloth designed for glass. you have to clean the heavy stuff off with Windex or a glass cleaner then go over it with the micro fiber cloth . ours are always spotless and streak less.
