stall speed..
#1
hi guys
I have a question... my car is a 72 mach 1 /351cj/C6/3,25 traction loc..and I want to know the stock stall speed (torque converter) on that car .
many says that on 72 CJ ford put an High stall speed converter about 2800 is it right.?. .I had a firebird before and with the mach I have the sensation I have to go higher/RPM's to make the car move I am not so kind with that feeling..and with the 3,25 highway speed is high/ RPM .
I want to put a lower stall speed converter (1800) on the car. I use it mainly as a cruiser and the engine is stock.. .. I guess too low is not good with the cleveland.
what do you think? wrong idea?

I do not know but 2,800 sounds about right.

I agree with how that feels and would share your concerns of lowering that too much with the Cleveland.

I have not worried too much about it because my automatic days are numbered as I want to replace the slush box with a stir stick!

I can't say for sure, I'm not up on the 351, but 2800 sounds awful high to me to be stock. The big blocks only have about 1600 stock and I'm using a cam with 562 lift and it requires at least 2800. One note before you buy one, BE SURE of the pilot dia. they use two sizes in the C6

Many 1972 -1974 351C-4V CJ engines were mated to Ford's C6 automatic transmission. Ford used a special high-stall (3000 RPM) torque converter (D20Z-7902-A)
