JUST SOME INFO FOR ALL YOU MEMBERS, THE GUY WHO IS DOING ALL THE PANEL WORK ON THIS CAR IS MAKING MOST OF THE PANELS HIMSELF EXCEPT FOR THE FLOOR PANS CHEAPER TO BUY FROM THE STATES AND HE WILL NOT USE A MIG WELDER (CRACKS APPARENTLY BECAUSE THE HEAT BETWEEN THE PANELS IS NOT CONSTANT)EVERY WELD IS DONE WITH GAS,HE LEARNT HIS TRADE IN ENGLAND WORKING ON ROLLSROYCE AND BUGATTI;S ECT AND KNOWS HIS STUFF, SO FAR I HAVE SPENT AROUND 10,000 ON PANEL WORK AND THERE IS ONLY LHS INNER REAR GUARD TO FIX.

At the moment for 1 dollar Aust we get 107 US so it would be around $10.700 dollars. Panel work in Australia is not cheap regardless on who does it. Problem here is not many people are interested in cutting out rust in old cars, and i did not want a car full of bondo.

Welcome Pete, haven't said g'day yet. Good to have another aussie. We are starting to get a few. Not cheap restoring a car especially when most of the parts aren't off the shelf items over here SSig_goodjob2
Most of the panel beaters aren't beaters anymore just panel replacers. They don't want to know about the job if they can't just put on a new panel. I don't think alot of the younger ones should be called panel beaters any more.

Steve you got that right took me bloody ages to find this guy and lucky enough he is Mobil and does it at my place so i can see what is happening with the car and not hidden behind bog, he charges $70 an hour which in Perth is pretty good considering any tradies here are around $80 per hour. Last guy I used for my Karman Ghia panel work ok but the paint was shit started cracking after one year and now whole car has to be taken back to bare metal and done again so lesson learnt there this time get a written guarentee. Have to look at that one after the Stang is finnished.

The bug was pretty hot too. Big wide 235's on 14" centrelines, wide fibreglass guards, fibreglass bootlid with a little whaletail, sunroof. Only had a 1600 but they are only light around 700kg so got along really well. Would have been good if the paint was nicer.

There is a club like that over here....the VW drivers club of QLD but the BLB club was nothing like that. Good people who couldn't give a toss what your car looked like Laughing
