New member but old Mustang collector

I live in Ontario Canada, since 1982 I have owned 73 Mustangs. I now presently own a 1973 Mach1- bright red exterior with medium Ginger deluxe Mach1 interior , fold down rear seat and 351 Cleveland 2 bbl engine. and Ram Air system.

I also own a 73 Mustang convertible 351 Cleveland 2 bbl with 66K original miles , and a 84 GT 5Litre 5 Speed Convertible with 122K kilometers .

I want to upgrade my Mach 1 engine with a 4bll intake and carb and I am looking for suggestions.

Welcome Wayne,

Glad to have you along for the ride. Looks like you have a nicely filled stable of Mustangs!

I too run a 351C 2V and will be upgrading to a 4 barrel intake and carb. From what I have come across Edelbrock http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/...ford.shtml intakes seem to be the way to go. Either the Performer or the RPM Air Gap. From what I have read they they will give you the most useable horsepower and torque for the street. Of course Edelbrock also has their carbs to match. It is only a matter of personal taste as opposed to test numbers but I like the old school Holley.

Others will pipe in shortly with their take on it all and you'll have various views and a decision of your own.

Thanks for joining, thanks for the picture of your car. Feel free to post as many as you like - we like pictures.

Welcome2 Wayne

Nice one.

My 73 has a Edelbrock manifold with a 4 barrel 600 Holley on it.

Yeah go with the Holley. That is if you want to tune on it every other day to keep it sharp. If you want to set it and forget it, go with the Edelbrock, it's virtually a Carter afb one of the best carbs ever. Winner But thats just my opinion. JTS 71 Mach1 73 Mustangs this guy is a for real Mustang freak!!!

Has anyone used a Weiand intake manifolds?

I have not used a Weiand.

From what I have gathered most go with the Edelbrocks because they are dual plane while the Weiand is a single plane design. The point being a loss of lower RPM torque although Weiand recommends adding the spacer to compensate if greater troque is needed below 1,500 RPM. I think I am telling you what you all ready know - hopefully someone on the forum can step up and talk from experience.

Welcome to the site from Virginia! Wow, 73 mustangs, how do you keep track! I haven't owned that many cars in the 57 years I've been here on earth! I've got a 73 Convertible too, they are lots of fun!
